Wii left on and now is stuttering...

Post by SpaceBooger »

One of my sons must have reached past the child lock and turned my Wii on. It's been on for like a week and when I tried to play some games tonight they were all loading crazy slow and cut scenes were stuttering. When a stage first loads the games stutter like crazy to the point it's unplayable whereas I used to not notice.

Is my Wii now dead?

I unplugged the system for the night. I am hoping that since it was on forever and I played some games immediately without turning it off and letting it cool down that all may be good tomorrow... but I'm worried and too impatient to wait until tomorrow evening to test it out. So I'm asking you guys - is my Wii dead or do you think it just needs to cool down?

Anyone else have a stuttering Wii (that sounds funny) and anyone else leave their Wii on for a long period of time?

I ran my wii on carpet for some time and it got hot, because of the lack of air. It would go to black part of the time and become unresponsive.

I unplugged the power brick from the wall and the from the wii and left it alone all alone. I left it for about a week like that because I was busy. It's been pretty much fine since. I doubt a full week was needed.

Don't know if that will help here, but it beats buying a new wii I'd guess. It sounds like a heat issue to me.

Had the same problem because my fan died and I left it on wii connect 24. I unplugged it for the night from the console and the wall and it worked fine the next morning.

I bought a cheap replacement fan and haven't had a problem since.

I think yours will be fine to, don't forget to check that your fan is working also

Left if off and unplugged for a couple of days like you guys recommended and all worked well tonight.
Thanks... even though I was worried about nothing.

Thanks on the avatar - my favorite NES game ever (not to mention comic character)

I thought the same thing after being on for at least a week.... sometimes you get lucky. I'm glad I was lucky since I have a ton of WiiWare and VC that I could have lost.

It was off. That killed my first Wii (black dot artifacts) while it was still under warranty. This one was just on.

It's good you had Wii Connect 24 off as that did kill older GPUs on your new Wii. Despite this one still being under warranty I'd still learn how to hack your Wii to back up you VC + WW games. Nintendo isn't always going to transfer your stuff and it sure it doesn't hurt to protect your VC + WW investment. At least with PSN + LIVE you have an account but VC +WW is a bit scarier to me in terms of loss or potential loss anyways.
