Worst system you still own

Well, I guess the Playdia would be the worst system I've ever owned. There are really no redeeming games on it at all. Then again, it was meant to be a kid's system and not a traditional game console.

...BUT, if I were to say which of my consoles I feel the most let down by, it would probably be either the N64 or Dreamcast. Yeah, I could say the 32X, 3DO or PC-FX, but where is the fun in that?

N64:
I don't like how the controller feels. I find the yellow 'c' buttons to be poorly designed, the analog stick feels cheap (and lots of them go loose all too soon), and there is a lack of high quality games on the system. Sure, there are some A, AA and AAA titles, but only a handful of them. It's a system full of mediocre 3D titles that really don't hold up well today in comparison with most other retro consoles. I DO like the console overall, I just find it lacking when compared to other major retro systems.

Dreamcast:
So much unfulfilled potential. Like the N64, I just am not into the controller. The concept is cool, but it does not feel comfortable in my hands for long periods of time. The beeping from dead watch batteries in the VMUs gets annoying, and the face buttons just do not feel right to me (much like the 'c' buttons on the N64, but not quite as bad). The analog controller on the Saturn was perfectly fine. What happened here? As for the library, yes... there are some real gems. The general library is better than on the N64. Still, I find the Sonic games to be good, but not great, the real high quality major titles (JSR, Shenmue, etc.) are few and far between. The one thing that the Dreamcast really did do well is fighters (both 2D and 3D, better if you import on the 2D side of things) and shoot 'em ups (IF you import). The games DO generally hold up well today, but, as I said, I just find the real quality titles too few and far between... except on the fighting and shmup front. There were some really innovative titles on the system, but to be honest I just do not spend much time with a lot of them (sorry Seaman, but I do like Rez). So, it IS better overall than the N64, but still underwhelming overall compared to other major retro consoles. If only the PS2 didn't kill it, and Sega kept it going... things could have been different...

Also, the 32x was a complete failure that showed the public that the genesis needed an expensive add-on to be on the same level as nintendo's snes graphically, and it was considered a major flop in the market. Sega was essentially competing against themselves by having 2 major consoles on the market at the same time. I personally feel that the release of the 32x was unnecessary and should have never happened.

It only has 34 games, and I can only think of 4 that were worth owning that were not available on some other platform (knuckles chaotix, kolibiri, cosmic carnage, and darxide, and darxide was only released in europe)

mediocre.

yes the 32x has its share of ports, but each is the superior 16bit version of those titles. I obviously have a lot of pro 32x bias, but I think it is high in the running for best percentage of quality games in any system library.

The Virtual Boy was worse by far. And throw in Ogre Battle 64, Perfect Dark, and Mario Kart 64 and you've got a genuinely fun next month.

Well, probably. I don't know much about the VB. Perfect Dark and Mario Kart 64 kind of fall into the ehhh category I was talking about before. Ogre Battle is a good one though.

I'm sure they're lurking. As for me, I don't have very many consoles and handhelds, so I think the Game Gear would be at the bottom of the barrel for me.

my least favorite console is [your favorite console]. The library sucks, the controller is uncomfortable, and on top of that it's just plain ugly looking.

Maybe part of the reason I like the N64 controller is because my hands are huge. I can grab the top of a basketball with one hand and have enough grip around the thing to pick it up. I dare say controllers must feel a lot different to me than they do to most people. I really like the feel of the original the duke xbox controller too.

I've never understood the hate for the 32x.

I mean it didn't get far, so I understand on that front, but it has some very fun games. I think the system's biggest problem was simply untapped potential, and we all know why that happened.

Also, Tempo is fucking brilliant. Anyone who doesn't like Tempo is not my friend anymore.

And by the way, the 32x was not graphically "on the level" of the SNES. It was above it. Come on.

To answer the original question, I wouldn't say I have a "worst" system. I think a better way to put it is the system that's least interesting to me. And for me that's the probably a tie between the NES/PS1/PSP.

I'm just generally not interested in those systems. There are good games available for them, to be sure, and the NES was my first foray into gaming back in the day. But overall I just don't care. There are other system libraries far more appealing to me. Hell, I've said it before, but my PSP gets more use from me as an emulator than it ever did on its own. I've owned the system since the PSP2000 first came out, and I still only have 5 games for it.
