I love the Dreamcast with all my heart (I even own two of them) but I rarely play it. None of the titles really appeal to me and being able to burn games makes me not really pay much attention to a certain title cause if I dont like it within 10 minutes I'll just toss the disk away. I guess I just suck :)

I have no idea how anyone could like the N64 controllers. I like my system all right, but between the joystick, the three arms, and the massive size, I'd much rather play with the dual shock than the N64.

I think that a lot of people love the N64 due to nostalgia. It's one of the truest examples of being blinded by nostalgia that I can think of. It was a lot of people's first console.

I honestly think it's Nintendo's worst console. Controller issues aside (it's pretty poorly designed, but this is only my opinion), the selection of games is just so bad. The biggest games on the system, Mario 64, Goldeneye, and Zelda: OoT, just feel so lame today.

N64 is almost my least favorite console that I own. I didn't own one when it was new so I don't have any nostalgic attachment to it. As for the games, it has a few that I like, but overall I feel the games have aged horribly and don't have a lot of appeal to me. The N64 is also very weak when it comes to my favorite genres like RPGs, shumps and 2d fighters.

Funny, I was just enjoying Super Mario 64 with my girlfriend. Anyhow, most of the major PS1 titles suck too (frequently much worse). It just had a lot more of them. That whole console generation was about game developers figuring out where to go with the new technologies available--so almost all of it is utter shit now that people have figured out what to do with 3D games and large amounts of data storage. And seriously, if you look at where modern action/adventure games have come, all of that has its roots in Nintendo's N64 library more than in anything on any other console.

The saving graces of that era were the RPGs on the PS1, the action games on the Saturn, and the multiplayer games and platformers on the N64 (Smash Bros and Mario Kart 64 still beat almost everything in group fun). Depending on which of those categories you care most/least about, you'll have a different opinion of the three systems. I couldn't care less about most of the shitty, boring RPGs that were on the PS1, and I care a lot about texture filtering in 3D games, so guess what's at the bottom of that pile for me?

The moral of the story is that yes, people can be blinded by nostalgia, but that doesn't give anyone carte blanche to dismiss people's opinions so easily.

The Virtual Boy was worse by far. And throw in Ogre Battle 64, Perfect Dark, and Mario Kart 64 and you've got a genuinely fun next month.

I sense an offended N64 fan. Not that I've even read any of the posts here. I just sense one. Weird.

Well, probably. I don't know much about the VB. Perfect Dark and Mario Kart 64 kind of fall into the ehhh category I was talking about before. Ogre Battle is a good one though.
