Is Soul Blazer (SNES) an RPG?
Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
Nope, this is my first time playing it. As of last night I'm a little over 10 hours in. So far I think it's the best RPG I've ever played.dsheinem wrote:Have you played before? I just played this for the first time last month - you are in for a treat!jmsajdak wrote:SNES version of Chrono Trigger

I don't know if I can go that far with it or not. From a technical standpoint, it is undoubtedly one of the best 16-bit RPGs made. The artwork, music, and characters are great, and it arguably has the most engaging story amongst its contemporaries. That said, I have a soft spot for Lunar 1 and 2 from that gen, as well as for some of the FF titles from the 32-bit era and Bioware games from this gen. I think it would make my top 3 or 4 of all time, but I have enjoyed other, more recent RPGs more.jmsajdak wrote:Nope, this is my first time playing it. As of last night I'm a little over 10 hours in. Yeah, Trigger is one of my favorites, but I'd put Xenogears, Suikoden 2, Breath of Fire 4, Secret of Mana / Seiken Densetsu 3, and a handful of others above it.
Why not? Yeah, it's also loosely part of a trilogy... Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, and Terranigma. Good games, Terranigma is pretty out there.o.pwuaioc wrote:Is Soul Blazer (SNES) an RPG?

I need to get back into CT. I stopped around 10 hrs. And as much as I can see why everyone loves it, I don't quite love it for some reason. I'm trying to think of what would be some of my absolute favorite RPG's -- FFIV, Suikoden, Lunar, Phantasy Star... but yeah I need to motivate myself to plunge back into CT. I think I just felt like I was making great progress, and then felt like "wait a minute... I'm not even halfway through the game yet???" And generally thinking that way isn't a sign that you're loving a game.
Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
The Chrono games and Xenogears have weird pacing, I can see how they're maybe not for everyone.

Illusion of Gaia is def one of my favorites, but I've yet to play Terranigma. Thought I'd go back and play Soul Blazer first and am loving it! So the story isn't as strong as Illusion, but it's still a lot of fun and some interesting puzzles. Can't wait to play Terranigma now.Xeogred wrote:Why not? I've owned Shining in the Darkness for a few years now but haven't tried it until last night. When they say it's a dungeon crawler, boy they aren't kidding! It's like you have to level up in the first 3 hallways of the first dungeon before continuing through it. Or am I missing something?
I kinda wanna fire Shining the Holy Ark back up. I love that game, but never beat it. I made 2 or 3 attempts at it, getting a little further each time, but stopped playing for one reason or another. Any one else like Shining the Holy Ark?

13 hours into FFIV (PSP) and I'm almost nearing the end already (for the main game), hot damn.
I might put Interlude and The After Years on hold though for now and consider picking up my GBA game of FFV again instead, to finish that game once and for all. I'm only a few hours in on the GBA, but I got all the way to the N-Zone on the PSX version many years ago. It still haunts me to this day that I dropped it for some reason and never finished it. I kind of bash the game a lot too, so I think it's time to redeem that a little and come to terms with it... haha. I really am craving it a lot.
