As I recall the game turns into death pits and spikes shortly after that. Have fun.

Has anyone made it out of band land yet?

I know I did. When I wasn't ready to scream.

I have, but haven't actually entered the next level. Had a hard time with band land, so I'll probably get mighty frustrated with the next area.DinnerX wrote:Has anyone made it out of band land yet?

Picked this up about a 6 months ago for a buck. I'll be playing it on the PS. The difficulty of this platformer is insane. I havent made it out of the band lands yet. Also, not thrilled about having to collect everything to face the last boss.

I started this yesterday. I've only beat 4 levels or so, but it's been OK so far. Onto band land soon.
I did both the mosquito level and the water rising level, neither proved very difficult I found.

My first effort got me in the 2nd coin of band land. It was the Allegra Presto.
Burned through the 5 continues in band land. Now I remember why this game was so hard.
The 5 continues! Its one of those games you play and fail a few times, memorize the levels and replay the game over and over.
I never beat this game back in 96/97, I don't think Ima do in 2011 either.
Gonna give a few tries...
Currently I just passed through the band land and arrived at the blue mountains.
My game is at 21% complete.

Well, while I'm terrifying everyone I'll add these little tidbits. The extra lives you find in levels won't be there after you collect them once, you cannot get an extra life from a any specific bonus stage more than once, and the game has no way to get more continues. When you loose all your lives and have no continues left you get kicked back to the map screen and have 3 lives.
Really though it is a fun game in spite of its difficulty. It keeps introducing new gameplay elements up until it ends. The music is great and the levels are well designed and interesting. Deaths seldom feel cheap. It is very satisfying to beat.

Cleared the blue mountains today. Sitting at 50% complete at the starting area of Picture City. I try not to play for more than an hour at a time cause this game can really piss you off.
I basically play through a level, die a bunch of times and memorize it. Then I reset the game and play that level over without dying then save it.

Re: Together Retro: Rayman
I've kept the game case out to remind me to play. But every time I look at it, I think of the stupid collecting aspect and how I won't be able to get to the last boss.

Hell, even without the collecting...noiseredux wrote:I've kept the game case out to remind me to play. But every time I look at it, I think of the stupid collecting aspect and how I won't be able to get to the last boss.
The game's pretty difficult and frankly, it annoys me. I feel like I die in a lot of really shitty, stupid ways.
I ended up running out of continues somewhere in band land just moments ago, and I shut the game off.
I love a challenge in a game, but I have to be having fun to want that challenge. I'm sad to say that I'm not having a lot of fun with Rayman so far, and I'm honestly really surprised by that. It's not that its too hard for me to enjoy it, its that, well I'm honestly bored by it.
I'll keep working on it, but...

Ha! Still haven't used a continue.
FYI There's about 5 easy lives in bandland on the level where you're sliding around. I believe its on the 3rd section. There's a checkpoint, and a cloud that you can ride up to them.

Older. Not wiser.
