Softmodded wii on 3.4 update?

I softmodded my wii over a year ago. I updated the shopping channel with a wad. Is there any reason I should update to 4.3 then remod. If i use nintendo update will it brick. I have bootmi as boot 2. Also I thought about softmodding my brothers wii for his kids. I want to know if it would be safe to let children use it. Is there any way the kids could brick the wii. Their ages range from 4-12 so I don't want to do anything if the little one can brick it.

The only reason to go to 4.x is if you want to use SDHC cards. Other than that, you're fine to stay where you are if you want, just update the channels that need updating, and add IOS58 for USB2 support, etc.

I have usb 2 support already. What about softmodding my brothers wii. Would it be easy for the kids to brick it?

No, Wii modding has evolved to the point where it's foolproof. Bricking a Wii is fairly difficult and would require actual intent.
