Any benefit of a 10 pin Saturn cable with composite?

Post by dogman91 »

Right now I have a 3-pin cable with the composite pin and stereo audio, but the Saturn has up to 10 pins for video output. Is there any benefit to getting a 10-pin Saturn cable if it's only the standard A/V cable? (3 plugs) In other words is there an improved picture quality, even if it's minuscule, for a cable such as this: http://cgi.ebay.com/Sega-Saturn-AV-Cabl ... 415b5dcb38 ...instead of the usual 3-pin one. Just FYI not planning on using S-video or RGB as my CRT TV doesn't support it. Thanks.

The only difference will be if the wires are thicker or more resistant to interference. Pretty much any 3rd party ones that are new will be thin wires so you'll see no difference. The other 7 pins if they're there in the plug won't be connected to anything.

They would only make 10 pin connectors if they were planning on making multiple connectors, composite, s-video, RGB, etc and wanted to do only one batch of Saturn Adapters to save on costs.

Would only make a difference if you were planning to splice the cable to make an s-video cable.

I was gonna say, depending on how these plugs were made, they probably don't even contain the other 7 pins. Even official Sega brand cables only contain the pins the cable is using. But if you look at the pics in the item description, there's a pic of the mini DIN plug showing all the pins. Weird. Maybe these cables were made from an off-the-shelf mini DIN connector.

Nevertheless, Doug, whether all the pins are there or not, it doesn't matter. Those other 7 pins might as well not be there.
