Yah, I think it has something to do with the inductors in the Gamecube, from what I recall, the same thing is found on the bottom of the slot racing cars:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inductor
I think they let off a little be of a smell when the inductor is powered, depending on the quality of the wire wrapped around the middle. Any chance that you like the smell of the air of those 'fanless' air circulators? Like the ionic breeze?
Dunno, just throwing out suggestions.

If you aren't having a good time, why are you playing?
Re: Gamecube Smell
This thread reminds me of the very distinctive smell N64 cartridges gave off when they were brand new. I always liked that.

I also like the smell of a brand new Xbox 360 case, I can't describe it. Video games have so many good smells!
Oh, and the smell of grape gum stuck to the underside of the arcade cabinets button deck...

Re: Gamecube Smell
I think I sort of know the smell you're talking about. Which is amazing considering how poorly my nose works half of the time. It's not really a burning smell. It's more plastic or metal like to me.
Considering how long your cube has been around, it isn't likely to be problem of some kind. After nearly ten years, something would have surely broken by now if it was burning.

Re: Gamecube Smell
Definitely not. Reading lasers don't have that much power and with the disc spinning it definitely coudln't heat up any spot enough. Even if Tim Taylor got hold of it and supercharged it, if it was burning the discs, they would all have stopped working.CRTGAMER wrote:Maybe the POT is set wrong and the laser is burning the disc .........

Re: Gamecube Smell
Okay, I should probably clarify, it's not a burning smell at all.
It's a warm, clean electronic-y smell.
I'd like to think I'd notice if one of my consoles was burning up
