Probably just has a nice job. I know with the money I make, if I didn't have a family to support and didn't own a house, I'd easily be able to afford this kind of spending.
He has a wife...

you would be surprised. i bet there are more than a handful that are a bitch to find sealed.
Okay, so there are a small number that would be hard to find. But still his story of the difficulty finding MotoGP sealed amounted to "I looked for it on eBay a lot and then this one time is was on eBay". Like I said, I don't think he's a bad person, more power to him. It just isn't that impressive to me as a collector to just scour eBay for what you want and then buy it.
and a wise sealed collector once told me: "a stamp collector isn't laughed at because he isn't using the stamps to send mail, a coin collector isn't shunned because he doesnt buy stuff from his coins, so why should a game collector open and play his games?"
The difference, to me at least, is that stamps and coins and baseball cards and things of that nature can still be viewed and enjoyed for their aesthetic qualities. The beauty of a rare coin can still be appreciated through plastic and polymer. Sealed games can't, unless you're really into cover art I guess. And no, I don't understand collecting sealed and graded comic books either. It's just not something I can get pleasure from.
well games have artwork and can be viewed aswel
and by the way.. nowhere in the interview it's stated that he doesnt have UNSEALED games to play (I actually forgot to ask that ^^)
But I bet he has plenty non-sealed copies he can play if he wants to

how much is this crap worth? where is his list? and what is he missing? I read some of his interview and scoffed, I don't think he knows his shit. Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution is a GH label game that came with extras compared to VF4, he said in his answer to what games he collects he only has 3 games that have extras on GH labels compared to normal labels but I saw over 20 GH label games.
We now know that all games in your collection are sealed, were there any other special criteria for games to be in your collection?
My entire collection consists of first editions. What first edition means is when a game came with a white Sony seal on the top of it. This is the version of games that I have. Some older games got a second release and the white Sony seal is not there. I did not collect those types of games. I made sure that all the games that own have the white Sony seal. Also no greatest hits versions, unless they made a game greatest hits with “extra” content. I think there are only 3 games like that and I do have them in my library. Those games are Devil May Cry 3, Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition and Namco 50th Anniversary. I also have the original version of these games in my library as well.

yes, people are expressing their opinion, but calling somebody an asshole because he has sealed games that probably won't ever be be played is just going a bit too far. you don't see him signing up on these forums and calling everybody here who doesn't want to accomplish this impressive feat an asshole.
if you took a shit, please put it back

How did get the money to buy all these games? He bought so many duplicates. He still doesn't have a complete collection, I think they're a few ps2 games coming out soon. I guess he bought a few Barbie, Disney Princess, and little kid games.

since the console is still "alive" it's not complete.. but when a game comes out he buys it and it's complete again :p

the games you see are probably extra's he picked up (i didnt inspect the pics with a magnifying glass :p) but if you see something he's missing, I'm sure he'd love to hear it!
you could make a topic about it at www.playstationcollecting.com/forum/

First off, I want to say that anyone is free to spend their money however they please, as long as they are able to pay their bills on time.

However, I think it's pretty silly to literally spend $100,000 on games that you will never ever play. And to make it even worse, these games will lose their value like crazy. It doesn't even make sense from an investment perspective. >_>

Maybe this guy actually has many millions of dollars, so spending $100k on sealed games that are only actually worth $5k is no big deal. If he gets enjoyment from seeing a complete collection on his shelf, that's great. Spend your money on what makes you happy.

I was pretty much being facetious with the name calling. I don't think calling someone an asshole is a very big deal. I throw that word around all the time. I'm an asshole.

I stand by my statement that there's absolutely nothing "impressive" about this "feat", though.

Sufficient time + sufficient money + adequate motivation = nearly any material possession you wish to acquire on this planet. Hardly impressive, in my eyes.

So what would count as impressive?
