One difference you might find between MGS and the rest of them is that, unless you play Twin Snakes, MGS doesn't have the first-person aiming that the rest of the series does. It makes a fairly large difference. There are other refinements/additions to the mechanics too - while the first game easily has the best plot, the subsequent titles are much easier to play. At least to me.

IMO, Arkham Asylum plays a fair bit different than MGS - but you might check out Assassin's Creed or Splinter Cell games if you haven't played those. The experiences aren't identical, but there are shared elements.

You know, i bought assassins creed and gave it a 30 minute trial. I sold it on ebay after that. I was soooooo annoyed that every time i ran into someone they were chasing after me trying to kill me. I'll pass on that game. LOL

That's why you avoid them!

ACII improved on things a lot though.

I tried Assassin's Creed once and I didn't like it.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, on the other hand, got a lot of play from me (still haven't finished, though. I lost my save when I changed PCs). I think I liked AC:B better than AC due to the changes with the controls. I'm not really sure which one because it's been so long since I played AC, but I found it much much easier to move around and fight with AC:B.

Haven't played MGS4 yet, but the gameplay of the MGS series has dated quite considerably. It does feel primitive now, but the over-the-top storyline more than makes up for it.

What I still lament is the lack of PS/WS in MGS3: Subsistence, so late into the PS2's lifecycle. That was a serious oversight. I do feel like re-playing MGS3!

I have the same problem, I just can't get in to MGS at all, I find it a chore to play, I just have no fun with it. But for some reason, I LOVE the Splinter Cell games, I find them addicting.

It's weird, I enjoyed the first two MGS', but I just can't get into any of the other Metal Gear games. I've owned Snake Eater for a few years now, and I think I've played maybe 30 minutes of it total. The same goes for Portable Ops. Just recently I picked up Peace Walker, since it seemed like it got great reviews from critics and gamers. After playing it for a few hours, I just don't see what everyone liked about it.

These games are sort of a chore to get into. I love stealth games, but each new one poses a challenge as I learn the limitations of the engine, the AI, and the layouts. I've beaten the first two MGS titles and own MGS 3, but I just can't bring myself to get into it. I will one of these days...
