Re: Help Getting Into JRPGs
I'm a collector, especially for SNES. But I do have every intention of beating every game I own.

No point whatsoever in owning games you can't stand to play.
If you have to force yourself through anything, you're probably better off selling it and using the money to buy games you DO enjoy.

I can stand them though and I do enjoy them, there's just some that I can't stick to playing for some reason. When I play them, it's always fun.AppleQueso wrote:No point whatsoever in owning games you can't stand to play

Re: Help Getting Into JRPGs
there's perhaps yr answer. Who says you have to "beat" a game? There's plenty of games that I really love, that I've never beat. To me, the time spend playing it -- the journey -- is far more important than beating it (the so-called "destination"). If you put 10 hours into an RPG, and enjoy every minute of it, but then decide to stop -- is that so bad? You got 10 hours of enjoyment out of it. There's certainly worse ways to spend yr money.darthmunky wrote:I can stand them though and I do enjoy them, there's just some that I can't stick to playing for some reason. I like this train of thought.noiseredux wrote:Who says you have to "beat" a game? There's plenty of games that I really love, that I've never beat. To me, the time spend playing it -- the journey -- is far more important than beating it (the so-called "destination").

I'm too OCD for that or something. Like I've been telling brunoafh lately I got all the way to the N-Zone in FFV once which feels like almost 10 years ago, and it still haunts me to this day that I never finished it. I mean, I guess I was RIGHT THERE so it's extra haunting, but yeah.
Honestly I'd say 10 hours in and then it needs to be completed for me. Less than that though, then I'd possibly agree with you guys a little.
More of a completionist I guess. Although I think I could easily apply that kind of logic with shmups, since you're more than likely to fail than to conquer most of those. Haha, but I can still love tons of them that I can't beat.

I'm usually the same way, but it still kinda depends on the game.Xeogred wrote:I'm too OCD for that or something. Good recent example, since you mentioned shmups, was Gradius 3. I'm pretty sure I was right around the corner from beating that game, but I ended up thinking, "eh", and didn't bother finishing it.
I haven't touched the game in about 3 weeks, and I won't be returning to it anytime soon. It just did nothing for me.
Its rare for that to happen though. Usually if I don't finish a game, I don't have a solid reason for it. I just stop.

I'm not like that at all. I can totally enjoy a game for a few hours, and then get sidetracked by something else and stop playing it -- and still just like the game for the time I spent enjoying it.
