Other retro/vintage stuff you own

Post by BRIK »

In this thread showcase other retro stuff you own that isn't gaming related :)
I'll start off:

I scored this 1960's turntable for free from my girlfriends Mum because she knows I'm into all the old stuff. She actually found it on a verge side collection years ago herself.

I'm not sure if it works or not because whoever owned it originally tried to bend the power plug to fit in Australian power points when it was originally suited for American ones. Also it needs a new needle.
She also found a plastic slip full of goodies including the instruction manual, warranty card, promotional phamlets and some other things for it:

My Nanna gave me this 1930's American Kodak camera when I was a kid when she saw me looking at it. I don't know if it works or not because it runs off 620 film! I wouldn't be able to develop the photos anyway, that stuff smells too much like cat piss for my liking.

I bought this 1980's old school VHS editing suite for $5 off eBay a few years ago. It comes boxed with all the cables.

It even still has its original price tag on it of $1089!

I've never actually had the chance to properly use it since I'm missing some other vital equipment (ie several VCR's and TV's) but if I plug it in all the lights turn on 8)

I've just got hold of a HMV 2022 turntable with a lovely valved amp in it. Was going to sell it but as soon as I got it working and heard it I had to keep it. I'll get some pics later on

Well like I said I've never even been able to power it up because someone bent the prongs on the powerplug in the wrong directions. I'm yet to find some spare time in which to try and bend these back. If I do do that successfully then I can find out if it works properly or not.

I'm kind of sick in the head when it comes to this stuff. I'm way too into it. I just collect too much stuff:

-Comic Books - Nearly 4,000 individual issues and about 50 graphic novels/trade paperbacks. It dates from the late 70s right up to currently released stuff. I still go to the comic shop every Wednesday to scope out the new issues. It's mostly Marvel and DC Comics, with some Image and other stuff sprinkled here and there and a nice chunk of Star Trek comics. I also have a tons of coffee table books on comics like The Marvel Encyclopedia and DC Comics Vault, as well as the Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide.

-Comic Book Trading Cards - I was a kid in the early-to-mid-90s. During that time, at least here in California, comic cards became HUGE. There were kids collecting and trading comic cards who had never even picked up a comic. As a comic fan myself, I latched right on to this fad. I still have my collection. I have 1000s of comic cards, mostly DC and Marvel from the 90s. 5 binders full of filled card pages. I also have a binder full of Star Trek cards from the same era. I also have this really cool book I bought online called "The Encyclopedia of Non-Sport & Entertainment Trading Cards Volume 1: 1985-2006". It lists every freaking series of non-sport trading cards made from that era. It's VERY informative. And it's great to just flip through and look at the pictures of cards.

-Star Trek Novels - Yeah, I'm a big geek. I have a lot of Star Trek novels. Mostly Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager since they're my favorite series. I also particularly like anything to do with The Mirror Universe. I also have a lot coffee table-type books about Star Trek that are informative about the shows, movies, and Star Trek universe. I even have a Star Trek: The Collectibles Guide.

-Wrestling DVDs & VHS - Like I said, big geek here. Wrestling is included. I have a lot of DVDs and VHS from WWF/WWE, WCW, & TNA. I'm VERY interested in the Monday Night Wars era of wrestling and directly after that in WWE. I'm also a big fan of TNA, but probably the biggest fan ever of WCW. So that's the kind of stuff you'll mostly find in my collection. I also have some stuff from the late 80s-to-early 90s era of wrestling when Hogan, Million Dollar Man, Roddy Piper, Macho Man, and Ultimate Warrior was running around the WWF.

Electronics-wise and excluding video games, the only retro stuff I own is a whole bunch of movies and TV shows on VHS.

Nice. My turntable is a Dual 1237 that my parents bought in the 70s. Some old things of mine that come to mind

40s - 50s (?) eggbeater manual drill with wooden handle
WWII German bayonet
Another German made bayonet that is likely older has it has wooden handle inlays
Dec 1972 howitzer shell canister
Ugly yellow-green cabinet that appears to have been for records, now holds some of my tools
Sliding door cabinet my parents bought when I was little, it is my entertainment cabinet
Mid 70s Coleman camping stove and lantern, still in their original (but ratty) boxes
70s copies of the Mad Magazine board game and Bonkers which was my favorite as a kid and still fun to play
50s (?) copy of Easy Money board game that has wooden die
Pachinko machine with a license tag expiration of 1974, so is likely a 1973 model.

I have a Tachi from WWII that isn't a Shin Gunto style that was the standard issue katana. Most likely a family sword. No identifying marks however except for some blood stains....
