1. DS

This little handheld with the clamshell design has pasted my expectations and more. The innovation and creative titles keep me occupied me. Also, contrary to myth, the DS has a very strong lineup of titles of various genres and some implement them in new ways to play. It is a shame that the 3rd was released so soon but has HUGE shoes to fill in.

2. Snes

Ahh the Super Nintendo. For me, this is close to being the perfect 16 bit console of all time. Nintendo has always been about quality and it shows with the snes. From F-Zero to Super Metroid, there isn't a shortage of great games to play. This reminds me that I have to discover more gems for the system.

3. N64

This is the system I grew up with. Although many hate the pronged controller, I love the design of the controller. The system's strong point were 3d games and damn, does it have some. Donkey Kong 64, Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Rayman 2, Ocarina of time, etc. are among several of the titles. Did Rare and Nintendo make awesome games or what!

4. Dreamcast

Sega's last console didn't go down without a fight, although futile :( The system itself is beautiful and love the controller with a vmu in it. This system has given me hours of enjoyment, mostly fighters :P It's software library for it's first couple of years is the best out of any system imo and many titles were revolutionary for the time still wow me today.

5. Gamecube

If the Dreamcast is my favorite 6th gen console, then the gamecube is a close second. Nintendo outdid themselves with the Gamecube, blowing away my expectations with it. It also helps that many Gamecube titles were exclusive on it. Oh, also it had the GB player; something that every Gamecube owner should have. Speaking of Gameboy...

6. GBA SP

I still remember when I got my Gameboy Advance on Christmas with YugiOh Eternal duelist soul the same year they came out. The SP solved my major gripe that I had with the original Advance; a backlit screen. Not only did they made it in a clamshell design, where the screeen is protected but it is confortable enough to play for long gaming sessions. Also, much of the library is reminiscent of the snes library. That's a good thing.

7.Nes

Where most of the longest lasting franchises originated. There is that charm of playing games with that "ah ha" moment in gaming and it most often occurs for me with the nes. Games like Megaman 2, castlevania 3, Ninja Gaiden, and Legend of Zelda are so addictive and time consuming. The system was prefect for a resurgence of video games. Thank you nes :)

8. Wii

So underappreciated. As others have said, once you get past the shovelware, there is a plethora of great gaming titles on it. Obviously you can't go wrong with Nintendo's first party titles, but there is also a good amount of 3rd party games like Monster Hunter Tri, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Murasama Demon Blade, House of the Dead: Overkill, and 007 Goldeneye. Even some franchises returned, such as Punch Out and Sin and Punishment.

9. Saturn

Sooo much 2d goodness here I have yet to discover but want to get. The model 2 controller is a godsend for 2d games. The amount of fighters and shmups is crazy, and the ease of playing imports is beneficial for the console. The only other thing I have to say is- Daytonaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

10. Ngpc

Last but certainly not least is the Neo Geo Pocket Color. This is my go to handheld for fighters, even over the Psp. My personal favorite, SNK vs Capcom, is more than enough to keep me occupied. Let's not forget about Metal Slug, Neo Turf Masters, and Sonic Pocket Adventure. The system with the best ratio of good to bad games. Too bad it was devoured by Poke-Mania :(

Honorable mention: ps3

All I have to say is give it some time and it would probably be in my top 10.

If there was such a thing as a Dreamcube, I would never need another console ever. :D

Forgiving my Nintendo fanboy-ing....

10. PSP- After a few years of awkwardness, the PSP library has shaped up enough in my eyes to be worth #10.
9. Sega Saturn- I know I've expressed my overall disinterest in the Saturn (and Sega in general for the most part), but upon retrospect I do have to admit it is a pretty sweet system. Just not one I'm interested in collecting for.
8. Nintendo 64- My first console. Always loved the controller, despite its crazy three-armed-ness. Only reason it doesn't rank higher is because there are few non-Nintendo/Rare games worth owning on it.
7. Nintendo DS- It always amazes me what they can do with the touchscreen. Tons of fun games on here. Haven't had the chance to play DSiWare games or the 3DS, so I'm just including the Phat/Lite.
6. PS2- Like the cube, I'm using this to combine the PS1 and PS2's libraries. PS2 always seemed like a generalist system in my opinion- it did everything okay. The two's combined JRPG library is always what astounds me though
5. Famicom- I like the aesthetic (especially the cartridges) of the FC more than the NES. You also have a bit more of game selection.
4. SNES- rock-solid RPG library, tons of classics
3. PC- Okay, this is cheating. I know. But there's a ton of games that are simply meant to be played on a computer (FPS, RTS, any Diablo-like).
2. Dreamcast- just got this a year ago, but the sheer amount of creative games on it is great. Good bit of the stuff is pretty arcade-ey, but that's fine.
1. Gamecube with Gameboy Player- combining this so that the gameboy line doesn't take so many spaces. While the N64 was my first console, the Gameboy line is what I mainly got games for, and the cube and GBA were the systems that I started spending my own money to buy games for as a kid. With how long the four systems ran combined, you can generally find every type of game, and have a library that will keep you occupied for ages.
