Anybody Here Play XBox Live Arcade?

Post by racketboy »

I'm hoping to jump in on the party sometime in the near future, but I wanted to get some real retro fans' opinions on how Microsoft has done with their downloadable games model.

Do you think Nintendo's Virtual Console will beat it out?
What should they improve on most?

Yeah nintendo will beat them. they have a huge backlog of games to choose from each from different systems.

first thing they should improve is this crappy thing with friend codes.
every game has another one. you should have an unique code (as msn, icq, ...) like on x-box live.
second they should implement a chat system like msn. otherwise the problems from the ds-com will move on to the wii...
know your roots !!!

I doubt the friends code thing(which sucks) will be on the Wii.

Meh I haven't been keeping up. Its too bad tho Friend codes are a mistake. I will only be using the Wii to play offline tho so it really doesn't matter to me.

I have a 360 and I think XBLA is great. They just need MORE games. Street Fighter 2 and Geometry Wars are the only games I've actually purchased, but you can play demos for the rest.

Unfortunately, the standard Xbox 360 controller has a really shitty directional pad, which makes it nearly useless in all retro style games. I bought a Hori wired controller and the pad on that is a big improvement.

Are you pretty happy with Street Fighter 2 then?
I've heard many complaints about the lag...

I usually trust Gamespot's critiques of games more so then any other outlet, but their complaints of STF2 slowdown has seemed odd to me, at least personally. It's always run completely smooth when I play it at my friend's house.

I only get lag if there is latency in the connection. Ie, if I'm playing someone far away, like in London (i'm in NYC). If I play someone else in the northeast US, I do not have a problem.
