Maybe it's my age, but I can not get into the online MMP crap. It takes all the fun out of it. Back in the day my friends and I would spend hours upon hours playing games like goldeneye, mario kart 64, diddy kong racing, etc.
To me, nothing is as satisfying as seing the look on your friends face when you hit him with a rocket laucher shot to the head. Or the sweet sound of a heat seeker missle whistling as a friend is trying to escape on his hovercraft. The trash talking that ensued was the stuff of legend.
Someone explain to me how playing a random whinny cheating 13 year old is just as good? I just don't get it. It feels so empty. I know our world is different than when I was growing up. Shit, we used to BEG to go outside and be out until sundown all summer long. Now it seems kids just sit in front of the tv or computer monitor.
Does anyone else prefer the old school ways?

I'm pretty sure you're preaching to the choir on that one. While it's great to have online capabilities, especially now that my friends and I have moved across the country since high school/college, there is no replacing the old days with four of us, a shit ton taco bell (no pun intended), and drink of choice, playing games for hours and hours.

Re: Local Multiplayer vs. Online Multiplayer
I'm sure I've said this before in other threads, but in real life I don't have any gaming friends. Certainly my wife has come around and will play some games with me. But if it wasn't for online multiplayer, I'd never be able to play fighting games against anyone.

The worst part is with each passing year their is less focus on single player experience and more focus toward online MMP crap. Bland generic brain dead first person shooters COUGH COUGH
Dead space 2? did it REALLY need multiplayer? What's next? Suduko masters online

You know, if you are looking for a debate it helps not to insult your opponent's possition in the first line.
So yeah...

First, i'm not looking to "debate" anyone, i just wanted to hear what other people felt about it. Nothing anyone says will change my opinion of it. Therefore I am not "insulting" anyone.
Second, and may i stress this is not directed at you personally, but I have never in my life seen a website so densly populated by such thin skinned people. I suspect i could fart and someone on here would cry about it

That you post a "Local multiplayer vs Online Multiplayer" thread on a discussion forum but don't want to debate doesn't exclude you from being insulting only makes me scratch my head.
Note that I didn't accuse you of being insulting towards anyone, I accused you of being insulting towards' others positions, calling them "shit". Those insults serve no pupporse at all, they add but clutter to our forums.

Then why do you keep posting here?

Re: Local Multiplayer vs. Online Multiplayer
I see it more as multiplayer vs people I know rather than people I don't. I'd sooner play old friends online than random people in person.
Re: Local Multiplayer vs. Online Multiplayer
You can play online with actual friends as opposed to random shit-talking 13 year olds.
Online play isn't ever going away. Hopefully local multiplayer won't ever disappear entirely either.
My brother is one of those stereotypical 13 year olds. Thank god I don't live with him, the few times I visited where he stays all you could hear was him screaming FUCKING FAGGOT BOOM HEADSHOT etc
