Duke Nukem 3D - Good Level/Map Packs?

Post by Xeogred »

I'm all about Doom and megawads, but when it comes to DN3D... I'm utterly clueless about any good custom TC/map packs out there or whatnot. Anyone here with this kind of knowledge on DN3D? I did youtube around a little and there, the "Los Angeles" one seemed possibly worth checking out.

When it comes to TC's, I'm not really a huge fan of ones that change the games too much or add in all these new sprites, weapons, or silly things... I just simply prefer good traditional user made maps, like a lot of Doom's megawads out there.

Also for those who are experienced with HRP/Polymer, is it me or does this thing completely destroy PC's? Do you need an extremely good machine to run this stuff? Kind of funny considering I ran Duke Nukem Forever at high settings flawlessly, but I tried HRP v5 and it ran like crap, and crashed eDuke pretty quickly.

Re: Duke Nukem 3D - Good Total Conversions?

The point of total conversions is that most if not all of the graphics, sounds, and whatnot are changed so that it fits a different theme, usually something related to a movie or series. Thus you get things like the Alien TC for Doom. So what you're really after is map packs. Unfortunately I never messed with Duke much as far as mods so I have none to suggest.

This might help:

http://www.gog.com/en/forum/duke_nukem_ ... em_3d_mods

For any game that GOG has in its library, their forum is generally the place to go to get started on mods/total conversions/what have you.

I did actually look there first (big fan of GoG myself)... it's a start, but... yeah. Haha. I have to imagine there's a lot of DN3D level packs out there. I did find this ancient tripod page, I'm just kind of clueless where to start. Whereas with Doom it's really easy to get into discussions with fans that have many favorites, know about the top rated stuff, etc.

And you're right Hobie, I just wish there was a name for it here with DN3D, like Doom and "megawads"., went ahead and edited the title a bit though.

I've always liked the anime-based add-ons.
