Re: Duality ZF
I can't even remember when I first heard about this game. I think it's between this and Pier Solar for the two independent games I've been waiting for the longest.
When a lot of players/ships are on the screen, it seems quite chaotic. The ships' bullets fill the screen so much that the enemies are destroyed before I can even see them until the players were reduced in number. The player bullets are quite pretty, but I didn't see many compelling bullet patterns from the enemies. The bullets were certainly easy to see though. The background seemed pretty nondescript as well. Despite the color of all those bullets, the game has a pretty muted look to it. Also, was that screen panning I saw? I can't say I've understood making verts so... horizontal. Plus panning can be disorienting.
I'm not trying to be overly critical - I've been following this game for a very long time now. The premise seems very promising, if it works. I hope for the best!

Re: Duality ZF
crux, no problem at all. We love all the feedback that comes our way.
One of the problems we have with showing this gameplay is that the domination of 8 fighters makes the game look boring, when it's not. If you played the SURVIVAL mode with 1 fighter, you would have enough enemies to challenge you within moments. The mode keeps getting harder and you cannot kill everything immediately. So the fact we lasted about 7 minutes is pure domination. That feeling is purely awesome, but only when compared to preivously playing it with 1 fighter, which you viewers miss out on. The solution really, I've already discussed this with Jason, is to only show bits and clips of the intense gameplay, and not show it straight through, because it is never perceived correctly to someone who hasn't played the game before. Most gameplay footage is like this. Also, SURVIVAL has no bosses, which have cool shot patterns. And, with 8 fighters in SURVIVAL the mid-bossess are killed so quickly (which kicks ass to witness when they usually take much longer!) that you skip by them.
EDIT: Here is older gameplay footage of only 2 fighters playing SURVIVAL for comparison, both controlled by the same person:

Also, at 60fps, the video is very clear.
We want better visuals all around and are working on ideas to improve them. There's a good chance we can hit XBLA if we accomplish that.
Oh, without horizontal panning, the game feels lame and "small". It does cause deaths here and there but it's worth it.
