my DK Jr arcade cab finally died - what can I do with it?

Post by RickyHenry »

Okay, so maybe DIED is not the right word to use. I teach at a college, and I've been allowing the students to use it on the floor that I work on. Over the weekend a steam cleaning company came in, and it has not worked since. When I boot it up, it starts beeping (making the jump sound) and flashing random graphics on the screen. When I insert a coin, it allows me to move around random graphics, kinda like a debug mode.

Anyway, the students and myself are getting sick of DKJr, so I was wondering....

Is this fixable, and what are my other options with this cabinet? What other games are compatible? Can I run a multigame board? Does a Playchoice board work?

Any suggestions or help appreciated!

Unplug the Power
Be careful around the CRT and power supply, there is still a lot of voltage even when unplugged.

Classic Cabinet worth fixing
Give the insides a good dust off with soft brush. Blow everything inside with a can of air. Hopefully there is no permanent damage from condensation or hard bumps from the cleaning crew. If unfixable you can Mame it with a PC, wiring up the CRT and controllers thru adaptor boards.

If all else fails, you could stick an MVS into it, right?

Nononono. Don't hack up what appears to be a clean cabinet with original control panel to add buttons and such.

I've 60-in-1 boards that seem super awesome. I believe they are JAMMA but is it impossible to install or convert that to fit this setup?

no i don't think so a lot of people do it.

i would take the board out and clean it.

my DK cocktail stopped working and when i finally pulled the board out i found some green stuff on a few of my chips so i mixed some baking soda and water and cleaned then washed it off. I allowed it to sit for a few days to completely dry out then installed it back in and it worked fine. I got lucky.

You should ask the folks at KLOV for advice.

Isn't the original Donkey Kong compatible with the JR cabinet? If so, maybe you could swap it out for the original and superior donkey kong!
