Sweet. I've had my fill of Defender, so I can't wait to start this one tonight. :D

I'm still debating whether I'll use FCEUltra or NesterDC though.

I think I may go portable for it. I'm going to compare my GP2X vs the DS.

Thanks for mentioning that. I had forgotten about PocketNES, but it might be cool to take some screens/movies as we progress through the game.

I was thinking of playing it on my N-Gage QD (I'm thinking of getting a CycloDS to enable emulation and homebrew on the DS lite). I quickly realized that there aren't any free NES emus for the N-Gage. I tried the trial version of VNES, but it didn't seem to be worth the 10 bucks they charge for it.

Another game played with keys...

i didn't get a chance to participate with Defender, but I'm all over this one. I'll fire it up tomorrow. good choice.

It's funny how hard this game gets. I've beat it, but it was quite a while ago.

I just played it today for an hour or so. Some parts are super frustrating. You spend all this time loading up on hearts only to make a small platforming mistake and you gotta start all over. It helps when you chill and let all the enemies drop and you can load up on hearts. The bonus area's with the flying nose-looking thingies can be a waste of time, if you get a shitty pattern you end up spending what you earned to buy your health back.

Wow, can't wait to start this one today! Guess I'll use the good old NES for it, even though I'll have to use the password system in this case. Let's see if I still suck as much today as I did back in the day!

Just played an hour of it this evening. I have to admit it was my first proper sit down to play it, I had a quick go when i heard about Kid Icarus being on SSMB, but I quickly forgot about it. I might go out over the weekend and buy a NES and this game just to get the proper experience, I've been meaning to buy a NES ever since I started emulating.

First impressions of the game were very good, it's addictive, rewards determination but punishes you for stupid mistakes. I haven’t really figured out what’s going on, which enemies i should be killing and where they are going to go next, but that should come with time. The main thing i have to say from the limited time I’ve been playing this game is just how advanced Super Mario Bros was! The physics in Kid Icarus are a bit unpredictable (although that might have something to do with his tiny little wings making him float)! Whereas in Mario, you always know where you will land, where the Goomba will fall, when to jump over a bouncing shell etc. This i felt was a common problem with early video games, and it wasn't until Shigsy came along with Mario that it was rectified. In the same vain, when Mario went 3D, he handled perfectly compared to the Tomb Raider style turn then run forward of other 3D games, Nintendo just has a habit of perfecting the handling of their games in each new instalment. Kid Icarus was built on the Metroid Engine (thank you Wikipedia) and so handles in the same sort of way as Metroid does, maybe a bit of a refresher course on that will give me better control of Kid Icarus.

This is the reason I love this club, an undiscovered gem, in my case anyway, that I’m able to give my opinions on :)

So, I have to admit, this selection is forcing me to take my medicine.

I never liked this game as a kid. Every ten minute session resulted in me yelling about how you can't duck on grass and how I shouldn't die by falling down a pit, because I have effing wings.

But... for you, Together Retro, I will gird my loins and play this again.
