Original XBOX soft mod fauly.

Post by Demented Collector »

Hi peeps.

Recently got 2 Xboxs, 1 soft modded and one not.

The SM one has a disc tray problem, with no disc in the tray it won't open unless I lift the metal cover up slighty on the drive.
With a disc on the tray it works fine however only when initially powered up.
If I change the disc I get a service message and a red light.
Once powered down then back up it works again.

Any ideas what I could do to fix it?

The standard one works fine, could I swap the hard drives round without having to do anything more thae unpluging/pluging in.
Will the service fault still be present as it's to do with the hard disc?
The fault was present before cleaning.

Thanks in advance. :)

Couple of horror pics of the SM's inside.

Agreed

I had the displeasure of repeating it on the unmodded crystal one aswell.

You could see the build up of dust and fluff through the casing.

I'm not sure if I'm understanding you right, but couldn't you just switch the dvd drives. It sounds like a hardware problem with that, not the HD.
There's no easy way to swap HDs in the oxbox. Each one is locked to that system through some software trick. It can be done, I just don't remember how exactly to do it. But it really sounds like the dvd drive is just falling apart.

No. Xbox hard disks are "locked" with a key burned on to an EEPROM on that XBox's motherboard. I'd leave the softmodded box as you don't really need a DVD drive on a modded Xbox.

Then I'd use the soft modded box to help mod the other box. All you really need it for is to move your exploit save file onto a memory card, you'll still need the mechassault (or splinter cell) disk to load the exploit. Then just boot Auto Installer Deluxe and have at it.

Thanks guys for your input 8) . Interesting to find out the hard drive is locked to the mother board.

I must admit I have zero knoledge about XBOX consoles let alone modding them.

I'll have a read up on them over the next week or two and decide what to do when i'm in a better position to do so.

Thanks again. :)
