My only worry with 3 is that they might give you too much power from the start, but I'm sure they have some sort of arc worked out. I barely hear it mentioned, but besides being crazy over the top fun, SR2 also has very good writing. I really hope they keep that up.
Seriously, it really did. The cutscenes were damn fun and good stuff. I'm sure SR3 shall deliver!

Hopefully there is a curve in terms of power though, I agree. I can say though, I think one thing that made SR2 so much better than the first game was the beginning and the pacing. In the first game you're this no-name thug just being bitched around by these other guys for the most of the whole game, but in SR2... you escape from prison, reunite with some friends, and it's time for YOU to rebuild that reputation and gang back up. That right there was seriously pretty satisfying and I think helped pull me into SR2 a lot faster than the first game... and well, SR2 finally came into its own and had character, which the first game kind of lacked.

Hopefully that sense of power and good pacing is back in SR3, but yeah. Still needs some balance. It's a new city though, so hopefully there's some good new competition and things like that.

I may look into this game since SR 2 has such a good reputation. I just really don't like sandbox games in general though, the GTA games bore me to death. The novelty provided by slaughtering tons of civilians on the streets or whatever was never something I was able to buy in to. I just don't understand the appeal.

Oddly enough though, I absolutely love the Yakuza/Ryu ga Gotoku games. Talk about massive... I put like 150 hours into Ryu ga Gotoku 3 and I'm still only at 85% completion or something.

Didn't you say you disliked even SR2 though? Guess it's nice you'll give this one a chance, I imagine it'll be the same deal for you though.

Ryu ga Gotoku = Yakuza series? I've always been kind of interested in those...

Yeah I didn't really like SR 2, but I barely played it and went into it assuming I wouldn't like it at all. Basically, I didn't give it an honest go.

Ah, well it happens. It's probably a bargain bin title if you want to give it another shot, I'd definitely say go for it. Very rewarding and fun game with a lot of fun stuff to do, and again I won't hide the fact that I really don't think there was anything special about the first game at all. But 2 rocked!

It does take awhile for SR2 to really get going. I thought the first couple hours were a real grind because you had no money to do fun stuff and you died easily. The game doesn't get REALLY fun till around halfway though when things start getting ludicrous.
I found recently found out you can get a double pack of 1 2 for $30 (buying both separately is the same price though :/). I just got the first game, going back in time with the story is odd. And Johnny Gat's hair  !
