What RPG are you playing right now?
Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
Teaming up with Bowser wasn't cool enough for you guys? Damn, I loved SMRPG and still do, completely destroys the Mario & Luigi series.

You're not alone Cecil, I don't like it either. It may be the fact that I was never a big Mario fan, and it probably has a lot to do with the fact that I never played it as a kid, but the game just doesn't appeal to me at all.
Brother Kain! I love Mario. I think Mario platformers are generally really fun. But the crossover makes them...kiddish, as JT mentioned. Same with Paper Mario.
Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
That makes no sense considering SMRPG is easily the most serious Mario game out there.
Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
I tried playing SMRPG. I believe I was about halfway through before I grew bored and stopped.
It's not bad or anything, and I may take a crack at it again one day, but I don't think there's anything in that game that wasn't improved upon in Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi.

Dude, you and me, we're about to have a throwdown.
I adore Mario and Luigi.
Hey, serious question to the SMRPG fans. What is it with so many rabid Mario fans who still drool hopelessly over Geno and Mallow? I found both of those characters annoying, particularly Mallow. What's the appeal?

You probably didn't get to Mallow's home, which was epic. Geno is just badass. I always prefered to use Peach and Bowser anyways.
Mario and Luigi isn't bad at all, but it really went all out with the "timing attack" aspect of SMRPG but was a little overboard for me, like you had to input so many strings of perfectly timed attacks for most things in the game if I remember right. That's true with SMRPG as well with some of the special attacks, but yeah. Wasn't as crazy and that just made some battles in Mario and Luigi feel like they took forever.
You should definitely give SMRPG another shot, it gets pretty awesome later on.

Coming from someone who plays through this game at least once a year, I agree with you on Mallow, although his character does improve a bit throughout the game. But Geno, or should I say " ♡♪!?", is by far my favorite character, his arm cannons and beam attacks are awesome. And how can you not like that he's a star being sent down from star road who possessed an action figure in order to help Mario restore peace to the Mushroom Kingdom? It's a shame he's fallen to the bottom of the stack of obscure Nintendo characters we'll likely never see again.

I agree with you on pretty much every point. I played this game for the first time in 2008 when it finally made it to europe on VC. I was fairly excited to play it, and then i fairly quickly stopped playing it. everything about it felt overly simple to the point it wasn't interesting, and frankly the writing didn't make up for the simplified and easy gameplay. It's the weakest of the mario RPGs if you ask me.
Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
How funny. I've been thinking about posting in this thread for the past week now. I've been playing SMRPG again. So I take a look in this thread, and there's talk of SMRPG!
The first time I played this game was on an emulator something like 7-10 years ago. I didn't have the money to buy the cart at the time. I don't enjoy emulators much, so I got about half way through and stopped playing. A few years later, I finally got the cart, and played through it. But, I kinda sped my way through it. I've been wanting to play it again for the past few years now, but I always feel guilty about playing a game I have already when there's a few games I own that I haven't played yet. I finally said, "fuck it," and decided to pop it in.
I like how simple it is. It seems fitting for a Mario RPG style game to be more simplistic. I enjoy its simplicity, kinda relaxing compared to some other overly complicated RPGs. I'm often tired at the end of the day, so a lot of times I like a game to play that doesn't take much brain effort.
Anyway, this time through I decided to make sure I do a couple of things. I forced myself to accomplish 30 super jumps. I don't think I'll be reaching 100 (maybe next time I play through it if I don't have much of a life by then
). Seriously though, has any one done the 100 super jumps? I just don't have the time for that.
I did the optional Final Fantasy boss too. I was leveled up pretty good (around 27 or 28 I think) and had the Lazy Shell and all the other badass equipment, so it wasn't too hard. It just took a while. The princess was my strongest character in that battle defensive wise. She only took 1 HP damage most of the time. On the rare physical attack, it might have been 20-something HP damage. It's mostly attack spells though, so Peach was my tank in that battle.
Anyway, I'm up to the Smithy Factory now, so the fun is almost over. Maybe I'll play some of the mini games a little, or buy some fireworks.
And oh yeah, about the story, kiddish it might seem to a lot of RPGs, but it IS a Mario game after all. I really don't find it kiddish. To me, that word is reserved to describe a game that's just unplayable. I find the story funny.

Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
I've been playing SMRPG on and off for the past few months. I've never really enjoyed any of the Mario games except Mario Kart, however I did like New SMB a lot.
I'm in the jungle at this point, so I'm guessing I'm not very far. Only like level 13 or something. I plan to try and finish it before the summer is over. I tend to start RPGs and never finish. Dragon Quest VII has been sitting for a while. I've put so many fricken' hours into that game. I should really tackle it next.
