Has anyone played it, yet? I played through it three times already. This game feels like Sega's apology letter for Sonic the Hedgehog 4. The game looks beautiful, plays great, and the remixes of the sound effects and music fill me with nostalgia. The only problem that I have with it is Sonic feels a bit too fast and the controls feel a bit loose. Hopefully that will be fixed by the time the game is finished, but even if it isn't fixed I'll probably buy it anyway.

This is a limited-time demo which has 17 days left, so get as soon as you can.

I think the demo plays great. I've been trying to speedrun it and beat my own speedruns. I don't find the controls loose at all, I love that you can jump and just stop on a dime. I never felt out of control at all.

Love the sense of speed when you zip through the level. Wow!

Edit: I don't know if it matters at all, but I played the demo on PS3.

I really enjoyed the demo and will definitely be getting it on launch day!! 8)

Played the Demo on PS3 in 3D and with no 3D. First off. I like 3D in games. For the most part you it can really immerse you in what your doing and look really cool. Wipeout HD and and Super Stardust HD being prime examples. But since Sonic moves so fast the whole 3D is smeared and not very pretty to look at unless you come to a full stop. The graphics were decent and I liked how it went to an almost Sonic Adventure type thing. But the 3D visuals started giving me a headache much faster than normal 3D does. I remember playing the original Sonic Genesis games and getting mild headaches due to the speed and everything.

So I played it in 2D, and it felt alot like the Genesis games, but with sloppier controls. You have to be very exact with your jumps and such. It also suffers from one of my main complaints about the original Genesis games, is the enemies that seemingly pop out of nowhere. Or if you do see them it's too late because you are going so fast. Also the lock on from Sonic 4 is sadly missed IMO. Actually after replaying the Sonic 4 demo it might actually be a game I would like actually play. But I am a little leery because the first level in Sonic Adventure was amazing and I dont really remember much of the rest of what I played. But if I get a gift card or two for PSN maybe I will get the birthday bundle.

Oh wow, I really enjoyed this! Not that Sonic 4 was bad, but as far as having that original Sonic game "feel", this blows it out of the water.

This is exactly how I felt. For some reason, I though that Sonic doesn't jump nearly as high as he does in the Genesis games.

The game is good, but still feels a little off for some reason.

I also agree that I miss the lock-on feature. My complaint about Sonic 4 was also loose controls and the sudden stops when you let go of the d-pad (which is also present here, but to a lesser extent). I would have liked to see the lock-on feature remain.

A cool new feature is that the spin dash is mapped to a button, which saves having to push down and then a button (which you can still do).

Why would they time limit the demo? Its like they presume that people won't want to try it when its already out before they buy it. Yet again another stella Sega marketing decision.

I rambled about the demo a bit in another topic. :lol:

Anyway, I'm assuming the demo is timed because they're just giving people a taste of the gameplay as a "proof of concept".

Its a quick easy way to show everybody who may be in doubt about the quality of the 2d gameplay just where the game is going (a lot of people were awfully disappointed with Sonic 4 when it didn't play nearly as well as it looked). Remember, this game is still 5-6 months away, with no solid release date. This is really early for a demo.

For the folks lamenting the loss of the lock on, it was added to Sonic 4 to compensate the homing attack in a 2d game. Generations is meant to really be classic Sonic. It doesn't have a homing attack, it doesn't need it, and lock on isn't going to return. Sorry...

As for my opinion on the demo itself, its absolutely fantastic. I loved every moment of it, and I'm so glad they released it because it took my already great excitement for this game and cranked it up big time. Day 1 purchase for me.

The screen is zoomed out a bit further, which is no biggie, but would probably account for what someone mentioned earlier about Sonic's jump height. Sonic also seems smaller in relation to the world around him, so that's gotta be a factor too.

I love the smoother controls though, (especially compared to Sonic 4, which I did like, but it had issues) the momentum, the return of the Spin Dash's classic behavior, and the fact that Sonic doesn't uncurl when he rolls up a hill. That uncurling drove me nuts in Sonic 4 and its a stupid holdover from the Rush games. So glad its gone.

Extra detail for you to check out, if you haven't already. Let Sonic stand still and check out his idle animation. They combined all three of his animations from Sonic 1, 2, and 3 for this. I thought that was cool.

I never really played sonic games, when they first came out because I never had a genesis. I do have the genesis collection for my PS3. And to be honest I really really enjoyed the generations demo. I never grew up playing sonic so its hard in to truly enjoy the originals. But this version (updated graphics) really stokes me.
