Love it: Carter and Richards needed to be split up. There personalities sucked. We lost a lot of talent, this is true, but there are some many rumors of locker room problems and partying issues that you have to wonder if they are true. We get a lot of cap space, but that will be used up signing players. They both had NTC that kicked in next summer (not that that means much - Gagne) and we wouldn't have been able to keep these two guys along with Giroux and JVR in a couple years, so I understand and support the move. The second big result is the shake up. The young guys coming up in our system need to know that if they don't act professional on and off the ice (locker room issues, partying, etc) that they will be gone regardless of how talented they are or whether or not they have a C on their sweater.

I like the return we got (I would have liked more for Carter), but I am a little concerned about how much money we spent on Bryz. There is still Bob, however, and if Bryz flakes out, we see that the club has no problem trading guys with hefty contracts.

Not completely surprised, I thought this might happen a month or two ago based on rumours that Pronger and Richards weren't working well together. I actually thought Pronger was more likely to be the one to move, as I thought they'd try to stick with Richards for the long term.

In other news, it was officially confirmed about 15 minutes ago that Winnipeg is bringing back the Jets name. Yeah!

Here is Wikipedia confirming it:

The end of the 2011 NHL Draft,

For a Wild fan, I was shocked by the trade of Brent Burns (+ 2012 2nd RD) for Devin Setoguchi + Charlie Coyle + 28th pick, but with the experience from Gabby and Boogey Man (all three had the same agent) and the lack of scoring on this team, I do think Chuck did the right thing here. Burns is a good guy, and I do think he can help the Sharks (though I think they need to take a hard look in other areas besides the D).

But from a outsider, man, I would not like to be in Setoguchi's shoes: considering that he just signed a 3-yr, $9 million deal the day before. With that coupled with the Flyer's trade of Richards and Carter, some will argue the that the NHLPA will take a harder stand on no-trade clause or limited trade. Yes, the only time that a player can truly not worry is during the Christmas week.

Next week is Free Agency, and boy I do see moves being made to clear out cap space. Any of you think Brad Richards is staying with the (North) Stars, or ready to jump the ship once someone offers a 5-yr, $35 million deal?

Blackhawks fan here!

Smile: Campbell is gone! He was a good player, but he cost way more on the salary cap than what he was worth.

Ticked: You traded Brouwer for a first rounder?! The front office better know something we don't.

Wow, Smytty is back on the Oilers! I think that's awesome. He never should have left in the first place.

True, I think he loves Edmonton more than the Great One and Messier.

Can't believed the Wild pulled another big trade: Heatley for Havlat.

Granted I think Heatley is one piece that doesn't fit for the Sharks, and I would hope the Wild can get Zack Praise via trade (not offering a huge contract that gives up draft picks) - this is good news to hear after missing superstar Gaborik.

Will be interesting to see if the pieces do fall into place for both teams.

Goodbye Carter, Richards, Leino, O'Donnell, Boosh, Carcillo, Powe, etc. I can't keep up with the Flyers moves. I feel satisfied for some reason. Like most typical fans of any team of any sport after a tough season I want changes. Changes are happening and I don't mind them so far. Well, except losing Leino. That makes me nauseous. He was a very steady player. Even if not putting points up he was wearing out the opponent every shift. I am also uncomfortable with how much we are paying Bryz. I am happy for Boosh. He is a great team player and will do well in Carolina as a back up.
