How has James Rolf (aka AVGN) influenced you as a gamer?
Re: How has James Rolf (aka AVGN) influenced you as a gamer?
I've been watching most of the stuff James Rolfe puts out since his AVGN NES Turtles review. I wouldn't say that he has influenced me at all, but I do think he is very talented and entertaining.
The best part is when he is pointing out something wrong with a game and complaining about it. I like it best when he just plays a bad game and points out the flaws. Shit jokes and skits outside the video game aren't as funny to me.

The skits thing seems to be a huge trend with a lot of internet reviewers and I wish it'd just stop. Spoonyone used to be funny too until he overloaded all of his reviews with these lengthy skits and plotlines.Inazuma wrote:I've been watching most of the stuff James Rolf puts out since his AVGN NES Turtles review. Only time I've ever liked skits in internet reviewers was probably in the RedLetterMedia stuff, because when you do 70 minute reviews you kinda need something to break things up.

Because we live in a world of vanity where every insignificant thing a person does is considered riveting entertainment for the masses. I don't pay attention to most reviews, and i never liked AVGN...but never really hated him. i always though his stuff was pure comic so for game reviews i just never went to him. i love CGR, what i really like about mark is he gives no score, and almost seems unbiased (or at least in his more recent reviews). he plays the game and usually has something good to say about it even if it's a horrible game. he will say if it's a bad game though. mark also has a great sense of humor, or at least in my book he does. the only thing i had to disagree with him on was his old review of Virtual-ON: OTT.
