To what extent are you a CIB collector?

I prefer to get things in the state that I would have kept them in had I bought them new and/or what the rest of my collection for the console is like.

My mentality tends to have been that if it was in a plastic case, then it should have been kept in that case, and there's really little reason to not be CIB. If it was a cardboard box, then it's not a big deal - though I do prefer to get the manual. Genesis games are sort of an exception there, since most of them were in plastic cases, so having the later cardboard box releases CIB is preferable. Most of my small Jaguar collection happened to come CIB as well (almost all was from a bundle on eBay), so I'd probably prefer to get those CIB if I get more.

Disc based games I'm pretty hard-set on them being complete and sticker free. Preferably not resurfaced either.

While I prefer to get non greatest hits versions, I'll generally opt for a new or like-new greatest hits over a grungy black label. They're not entirely avoidable in the first place as sometimes the reprints are revised versions of the game - DMC 3 was an SE, Virtual Fighter 4 Evolution, or the fairly common trend recently of including DLC.

I think I am about average with everyone.

Cardboard box = doesn't have the have the box

Hard plastic box (IE genesis) = prefer to have the game in box

Disc games= Has to have case (unless it is something rare)

If the price is right or I'm just lucky (SMRPG w/Box and Yoshi's Island CIB for $6), I'll take it. Otherwise, I'm just happy with the game for carts. With discs, I'd prefer CIB, but I can always find ways to find a loose manual and spare jewel case.

i like cart and manuals for cart games and complete for disc games. in due time i will just print the cover art for the carts and put the cart games in uni game cases.

I only go for CIB mint / near mint condition games. No Greatest Hits, Black Label only.

The gamer in me doesn't need the above, the collector on the other hand does.

Videogames for me are gaming, collecting and modding... ^^

Of course there's always that rare occasional exception, like that shitty condition €1 R-Type Delta for instance.

Like everyone else, CIB only for disc based games. Other than that I don't really care when it comes to cartridges, but it's still a thrill to find boxed games in the wild. Although I am working on getting all the Zelda games CIB, and after that I might go for the main games in the Mario series. Definitely not in any hurry, though.

Same here. Minus a few exceptions for games I really like and want in minty fresh condition, as long as it works is fine with me (and the price is right).

I started out just taking what I could get, so at first CIB didn't matter to me. But as time went on I realized that I really didn't like the look of bare cartridges. I actually like the fact that they are space hogs because it's easier for me to see the game and get interested in playing it. With bare carts, I would tend to pile them two (or four depending on how they stack) in the same space, so of course the games in the back won't even get seen. Even if I don't do that, there's just something very visually appealing about seeing the boxes that make the games more inviting to me. And really, there's no reason to "collect" (buying games quicker than you can possibly play them) then for display purposes. Most cart only games just don't display well without their boxes (doubly true for small carts like Game Boy ones or games with no label on the spine like N64).

This does make collecting more expensive, so for now I've taken cart only games when I can get them cheaply, and either replace them w/ boxed (don't care about manuals & maps, but will keep them if they are included) copies, or buy empty boxes when available. For instance, I have EVO Search For Eden cart only and I don't expect to get this CIB any time soon. But I do luck out on Craigslist and thrift stores and yard sales a lot, so plenty of the games I'd normally have to pay thru the nose for I actually got for very cheap. If I can get them cheap, I will. But I'm getting really close to not collecting for awhile because I'm getting to the point where the only games I need are either cheap junk games that I feel like I can pick up at any time or rare and expensive games that I'm going to be stuck getting off Ebay since I doubt I'll ever see them "in the wild."

And just to let you guys know I'm not totally crazy, I only collect RPGs, horror games and titles that I have played and like (that aren't RPGs or horror games). I don't do full sets for any system, and I did I certainly wouldn't do boxed or CIB. I can't imagine doing that.

Disc based systems need to have their cases with manuals. Greatest hits and the like are okay by me, as long as all three parts (disc, case, manual) match. Same with DS and PSP just because getting them complete isn't hard and I don't like leaving them sitting unprotected. Cart systems, cart only is fine. Actually having the case/manual is kinda annoying because I lack space for them. Gameboy games I like cart only, but with the clear cart cases on them.

because roms are so easy to get ahold of, I don't even bother with loose carts anymore. If i can emulate it i want it boxed and complete. Anything less just isn't worth collecting.
