To what extent are you a CIB collector?

Post by Kwixotik »

I'm talking older games with cardboard boxes, of course. Also, how important is it to you that the game you're buying is the original release rather than Greatest Hits (or the equivelant)?

I don't own any older games CIB and as much as I'd love to collect them that way, as a part-time working minimum wage college student, I can't really afford that luxury. Maybe when I graduate and get settled I'll go back and pick up 2 or 3 of my favorites CIB on each system.

As far as Greatest Hits, I'd much rather have the original release. I wouldn't buy anything but original release. I have a few Greatest Hits copies like Final Fantasy XII that I'm even thinking about selling and re-buying as black label, since I found someone selling for $3 (plus shipping ). I have a black label FF7, but it has a crack on the case and is missing disc one. . . The other discs look never-played-before mint. That one is really making me conflicted.

Depends on the system really. If you're talking about games with cardboard boxes only, I usually don't try to collect them CIB at all. The boxes are typically in bad shape anyway and are space hogs. Better to go cart only for me. However, if the game is happens to be a big favorite, a CIB copy is cool

When it comes to CD based games, I only want them CIB.

I buy 'em if I can get 'em. The really collectible ones HAVE to be CIB. I am NOT spending over $150 on Panzer Dragoon Saga for a few scuffed discs in a single plastic sleeve.

For anything I collected, it had to be complete, and in nice shape. (I have been particularly proud of both my SNES and GBA collections, but alas life happened and both have been sold.) As far as greatest hits go, I used to care. Whenever Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo announced a range of games being added to their respective greatest hits, I'd always run out and grab the ones I was missing (at the discounted price :)) but before they managed to bugger the packaging.

Nowadays, I don't really care about greatest hits vs non greatest hits, or even collecting in general. What little time I have to spend on gaming, I spend playing. As long as the game is in playable condition, I'm OK.

more and more I care about CIB.

With anything disc-based, CIB is a must. But more and more I'm interested in CIB's of other stuff -- my GB carts or Genesis or whatever. I think because I've been serious enough about collecting for a few years now that so many carts have passed through my hands.

As far as Greatest Hits, etc. I dont' care. Genuinely. The black label or GH version of the game -- unless there's bonus content -- makes no difference to me.

I'll get CIB if I come across it but other wise I'll take just a cart. If its a disc based game I want CIB unless the price is cheap enough I'm ok with just a disc. I'll take a greatest hits but I won't pay big bucks for them. If anything I keep my eye out for a black label and sell the green label down the road.

I'm not at that stage of spending big bux on CIB games but I think i'm slowly getting there.. I'm more interested in systems CIB than games.

Like others, I really only want CIB for disc-based. I don't mind carts only because they won't get scratched up just leaving them out, although I do eventually want dust protectors for all my carts. Carts from systems that had plastic cases, like the Genesis and Atari, I would prefer to get CIB, or at least a box for. Manuals are always a luxury.

I'm not a huge collector, although I have a few items that I don't play but am keeping for collector's sake. I'm far more into playing tho. I think eventually I would like a nice, complete library of games. Maybe one day...

I really only buy to play. CIB is optional in my case.

Playability is the most important factor for me, but I do prefer to get disc games with their cases (manuals matter only if they double as the cover).

Everything in box except for NES, SNES, Atari 2600, and gameboy. Manual is not as important.
