How has James Rolf (aka AVGN) influenced you as a gamer?
Hi, just wondering how James has influenced you (if at all) as a retro gamer or even just a gamer in general. I know that when I first saw his Bible Games video in 2009, my passion for gaming went into high gear and I started taking the hobby much more seriously. I had always been interested in older games, but no where near the level after I discovered the AVGN and his awesome rants and informative videos

he influenced me to not watch game review videos.

He has done nothing for me.
A large portion of his fanbase has turned me off of video game reviews, his own included.
Ralph is talented but some people take his shit too far.
Classic Game Room on the other hand...

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Not one sliver of influence.

I can't say I've been influenced by him in any way, but I can say I think some of his videos are hilarious.

AVGN was funny to me for about the first 3 or 4 episodes that I viewed, but then I saw him rip up some really old Nintendo Power back issues and that was enough for me. Never watched again......the cussing was starting to wear thin anyway.
Classic Game Room is much better in my opinion, but occasionally I feel like his episodes drag on because he speaks fairly slow. In most cases he's entertaining though.

I a) don't find him funny and b) am not interested in anything he has to say. Yes, games didn't always hand everything you were supposed to do over to you on a silver platter.
Gee, that makes me so mad I'll just have to record a video..

I like James, dislike the AVGN.

Really? Not even the slightest bit? It was my understanding that he is largely credited with reviving old school gaming among the mainstream audience. I mean, all you have to do is look at his Youtube and Cinemassacre views and he's obviously influential. Old School Game room to me is rather bland and not very entertaining. To each his own I guess.
