As far as pizza goes, my preference is definitely Gino's East in Chicago, but I say put whatever you want on your pizza if you like it. When it comes to pizza franchises, they all prety much stink but once in a while I'll get a pie from one of the chains that is pretty decent.
There are also a lot of independently owned pizza restaurants that serve some good pizzas but there is only one issue with them: change in management. This drives me nuts as a new manager comes in, cuts costs, and then the pizza starts to taste awful.
As far a ketchup goes, I find it an abomination in most cases, especially when it is put on hot dogs. My Father in law likes to drown his well done steaks in ketchup, which I think is a waste of perfectly good meat, but hey, if he likes it, he likes it. Same thing with anchovies on pizza. I actually like anchovies (the rolled ones with capers) on a pizza. The saltiness of the cured fish really brings out the flavor of fresh mozzarella, but I would not recommend anchovies on a cheap pizza as then it just tastes...fishy.
True story: There's a local joint called Boli's Pizza in my area (Sara Palin had a pie and some beers there last year) that serves a pretty good pie. My wife, a few friends and I went there a few months ago, and as always, we had the "What do YOU want?" conversation. In short, my wife wanted a white pizza, one without tomato sauce, but rather olive oil and fresh mozzarella. While discussing the white pizza, an african-american family sitting across from us kept shooting daggers with their eyes at us. I swear I think they thought "white pizza" equaled "pizza for white people".
