Game-Series that revolutionized RPGs?

Post by xXN3cr0Xx »

What game series do you think made the term 'RPG' actually what it is now?

In my opinion, it would be the Final Fantasy series since it affected the RPG-World drastically, you notice that by playing a certain number of other RPGs that got lots of similarities with the worldwide popular series Final Fantasy or even just elements of it.

when any version of that game comes out in japan, the country pretty much stops.

its fame in japan is undeniable! Not to mention that akira toriyama does the artwork for it too.

so yeah this series has revolutionized rpgs.

Wizardry was a huge influence on the Japanese market. We originally exported Wizardry to them, which prompted them to make Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy.

I would say that Morrowind and Oblivion really revolutionized the WRPG's of today's gamers, as well as Fallout 3.

Dungeons and Dragons

For video games only I would say Baldurs Gate and Final Fantasy.

Zelda, which while isn't an RPG game series itself, it did help pave the way for action-RPGs later like Soul Blazer. Also Everquest.

This.

To the guy who mentioned Dragon Quest: DQ was basically an attempt by Enix to make their own console version of Ultima IV.
