Confused about PS2 Modding Options
Confused about PS2 Modding Options
I'm fairly new to the scene of modchips. I've only installed one on my Saturn and PS1. I'd like to install on on my PS2. Looking at modchip.ca instruction's confuses the hell out of me. The chip doesn't appear to look like the other chips I've used. Also there are no solder options. Can somebody give me the rundown of different PS2 modding options that would allow me to play PS2 backups burned to blank DVDs?
Re: Confused about PS2 Modding Options
if you only want to play burned games just do freemc boot, pm me and we can set up installation for you.

I also rent and sell PS2, Wii and XBOX softmod-kits and I collect DVD movies let me know what you have.

Additionally with FreeMC Boot, you can install a hard drive (PS2 fat + network adapter) and play games off the hard drive. Most games are compatible, and you'll often get faster loading times. You can use a USB hard drive with a PS2 Slim, but the compatibility isn't as good.
I'm not sure what you mean by "no solder options".

I think he's referring to those Xbox & Wii chips that don't use solder but use some sort of clip. Personally, I would go with solder.Ziggy587 wrote: I'm not sure what you mean by "no solder options".

Just go with the soft mod (FMCB). The only real limitation is that you can't play PSX games with a soft modded PS2. But you have that covered already.

There was a series of similar chips + methods that required no soldering. I've never used them, but after I found out about HDL + FMCB, I opted not to waste my time on chips.

Re: Confused about PS2 Modding Options
Well you can actually. Let´s say you have a NTSC-U ps2 machine. You can play NTSC-U ps1 backups. The problems begin when you try to play a ps1 backup from another region like NTSC-J.Hatta wrote:Just go with the soft mod (FMCB). But, you can still play NTSC-J ps1 backups. you just need to patch the region on that NTSC-J ps1 game to NTSC-U.
You could try Gamester.

Thing is i have a PAL ps2, so when I patch a NTSC-J game to PAL. the game will be in 50hz.
And yes freemcboot all the way! It´s awesome. get a hdd as well.

Really? Without any sort of swap trick or anything? Is this new?

Re: Confused about PS2 Modding Options
as long as you can swap (flip-top or tape/tissue), you can very VERY easily play PS1 imports and backups on a PS2 using only Free MCBoot.

What's the tape/ tissue method? I've never heard of that before, but it sounds like a nice ghetto alternate to a proper mod - I'm interested!noiseredux wrote:as long as you can swap (flip-top or tape/tissue), you can very VERY easily play PS1 imports and backups on a PS2 using only Free MCBoot.
