Wow, considering how much you flipped out in the Wii U thread I figured the Wii was your current favorite system of all time or something.Flake wrote:I hate motion controls.
Two exceptions to that statement: Wario Land Shake It and Metroid Prime Trilogy.
For everything else, there's a gamecube controller.

'Flipped out' probably isn't the nicest way of putting it. How about 'Enthusiastically lobbied for'?Xeogred wrote:Wow, considering how much you flipped out in the Wii U thread I figured the Wii was your current favorite system of all time or something.Flake wrote:I hate motion controls.

ANYWAY, yes the Wii is my favorite system of all time but that is in spite of the motion controls. I love the Wii for the software it has that appeals so strongly to me and for the robust content to be had through the backwards compatibility and virtual console. If there was a way to get a GB player running through it, I'd be in heaven. I love the Wii because of it's amazing utility as a game system, not for any one feature.
That said, I still don't like motion controls. I think they are awkward except when developed by teams that really know what they are doing. I also think that a lot of developers tacked on the motion controls as a feature without really thinking through what it brought to the gameplay. You'd be surprised to see how many amazing Wii titles do not need you to dabble with the waggle to get your game on.
Metroid Prime Trilogy is an exception to my general dislike of motion controls because it is obvious that Retro really sat down and thought about the end result of the motions added to the game. Everything about the control scheme (especially Prime 3) is logical and intuitive - nothing feels like it was done just for a bullet to be added to the advertising on the final retail package.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

"dabble with the waggle", wow.
Yeah, Retro's a boss. I just hope the controls are fine for DKCR. I've heard you have to use the shaking to perform a lot of moves or something. Hopefully Skyward Sword is a little more intuitive as well, since Twilight Princess wasn't at all (arguably a GC game for the most part though I guess). Still not a fan of motion controls at all myself, but it was definitely flawlessly done in Prime 3 so I'm sure as you said some games utilize it a lot better than others and again, definitely looking forward to reliving Prime 1-2 with that control scheme.

The times when you roll are very imprecise and lead to a lot of cheap deaths, so just a warning on that front. Otherwise everything else is alright; I prefer it overall to the method of holding the Wiimote sideways.Xeogred wrote:Yeah, Retro's a boss. I just hope the controls are fine for DKCR. I really wish I could find Metroid Prime Trilogy out there that isn't priced at 80-100 dollars; the controls are really natural and smooth from what I've tried out so far. For now I'm convincing myself playing the originals on the GameCube first is the best way to go for now.

Keep an eye on Craigslist. I'm not sure what your area is like population-wise and whatnot, but I found a near mint copy in my area for $20.dogman91 wrote:Xeogred wrote: I really wish I could find Metroid Prime Trilogy out there that isn't priced at 80-100 dollars; the controls are really natural and smooth from what I've tried out so far.
I've actually been seeing a lot of postings for cheap Wii bundles and games in my area lately. After the recent Wii system price drop and announcement of Wii U, I think now may be a good time to score on some cheap Wii games.

Maybe. I have my doubts. Since the WiiU will be backwards compatible with Wii games, we'll probably see a similar situation as we did with the gamecube - the hardware got crazy cheap but the games held their value for a couple of years longer.Weekend_Warrior wrote: I've actually been seeing a lot of postings for cheap Wii bundles and games in my area lately. Finally someone else who likes Wario land: Shake it!!
Re: Metroid Prime on GC vs Wii
I read somewhere that the story is a bit different since the PAL and NTSC version have that difference. Like it was mentioned before the trilogy is based on the PAL version.
Oh and no original Metroid unlockable.

Hmm, yall seem to speak really highly of this set. Ill look into getting it. Truth be told, I havent really liked a Metroid since the first. And even though I have 70 Wii games, I do not have any of the Metroids...

you didn't like Super Metroid?
If so you might seriously be the first person I've ever met who didn't like it.
