I'm still upset about that purchase. It was the highest rated PSN game when I got it and man was I disappointed....

Flower is a spectacular masterpiece of storytelling theory and game design. If it isn't at the top of your "To Buy" list, rearrange your priorities so it is. You cannot miss this game; it is nothing short of a remarkable achievement in artistic expression. It tells a story without ever using a single line of dialogue or text. It is one of the few video games to ever make me cry, and I cannot emphasize enough how amazing this game is. Buy it as soon as possible; today, even. Seriously, if there is one PSN game you must own, it is Flower. Do yourself a favor and buy it. You'll thank me later.noiseredux wrote:I actually really want Flower.

The problem with Flower is that is isn't really a game, and that's likely what creates the love/hate disparity. It's an experience. There are no timers, no risk/reward, no benefits to capturing all the petals -- no replay value either, unless you're into doing it multiple times just because you enjoyed it so much. It's just a relaxing experience you take at your own pace. If you appreciate art, a good musical score, and something that tries to break the mold of what you consider to be a video game, go for it. It's easy to feel ripped off if you pay full price though as it's very short, and again, there is absolutely no risk/reward system.
If you're the kind of gamer that likes stuff like Elektroplankton (DS), you'll likely enjoy this.

There are trophies to go for and hidden secrets to find, so those elements add an element of challenge to the game.irixith wrote:The problem with Flower is that is isn't really a game, and that's likely what creates the love/hate disparity. I still wouldn't say "challenge" in the usual risk reward sense. None of the trophies are challenging at all -- in fact, they're a bit of a waste, just rewarding you for doing random things in the game. Neither are the secrets challenging to find. I would suppose that any sort of challenge would defeat the entire purpose of the experience!dsheinem wrote:There are trophies to go for and hidden secrets to find, so those elements add an element of challenge to the game.

I don't know, that one trophy where you have to get through the penultimate level of the game without touching anything was pretty difficult; I was never able to do it.irixith wrote:I still wouldn't say "challenge" in the usual risk reward sense. I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to ask you to hand in your gamer card.lisalover1 wrote:I don't know, that one trophy where you have to get through the penultimate level of the game without touching anything was pretty difficult; I was never able to do it.irixith wrote:I still wouldn't say "challenge" in the usual risk reward sense. What disc based games do you have, there may be some DLC worth your money.
