That's one of the things that is part of a reboot, if you don't change a significant number of things, it's not a reboot. Take a look at the Batman movie franchise, it had 4 movies before the current Batman Begins reboot. Before that it was goofy and silly and now in the reboot is more grim, serious, and darker. There are plenty of examples of this failing and plenty of them working. I think that after DMC4 they wanted to try and win some new fans over.Xeogred wrote: Now suddenly instead of eating pizza he's smoking? My problem with this "reboot" is that it's headed by a new creator/director, which was disastrous in RE5's situation to me personally. Dante's B-Grade jokes and humor are just about as epic as Leon's one liners in RE4, and the DMC games themselves had a goofy charm to them just like the old RE's or whatever. Suddenly they want to make the series more grim, serious, and darker, when after 4 entries already, that's simply not DMC.
...
People can say they're burned out on DMC all they want, but how about this... either A) Don't even make a reboot, or B) If you're going to change everything, make a new IP. Capcom could use a few of those right now anyways.

Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

At the cost of giving me a giant middle finger. That's my main problem with the game.Stark wrote:I think that after DMC4 they wanted to try and win some new fans over.

I find this to be an issue; as an outsider it makes this guy look egotistical. This game shouldn't carry the DMC name with all the changes present. A character can evolve and change, but when there are major personality shifts, different habits, etc then it's not the same person anymore. You can't see any of the old Dante in this new character at all.Xeogred wrote:

Let's just accept that everything after DMC3 will pale next to that masterpiece and move on. That was the kind of game that comes along once in a decade, and rarely gets repeated in the same franchise. I'm just glad that there will probably be a HD re-release of the original trilogy, as it is easily my favorite new IP past 2000.
I'm willing to give the new DMC a shot even if I don't like the aesthetics so far. But all this NERD RAGE is seriously much more depressing and unsightly than anything NT has produced.

Here's the bottom line. I've played Heavenly Sword and I've played Enslaved. When you got right down to it, these guys CAN'T design a good combat system. So why do you give them a franchise that is ALL about the combat? That would be like hiring Team Ninja to do a Metroid game.....oh shit, that's right, that actually HAPPENED.

We might as well talk about how crappy Max Payne 3 is going to be as well. New dev team, new creative approach, lots of suckiness

This is another point that I usually bring up to people that try and defend the "reboot". Beyond all the superficial changes that irk me, this is the actual deal breaker.Gamerforlife wrote:Here's the bottom line. I've played Heavenly Sword and I've played Enslaved. Re: Wow, Platinum Games ready to take over DMC project
what i don't understand is why do companies go to other developers for reboots and new games. normally i would be ok with this, but some decisions make no sense. Front Mission Evolved is a nice example, what the fuck was SquareEnix thinking in deciding that double Helix, a company that was responsible for games like G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and at one point the Golden Compass, would be a good fucking idea? There is absolutely no reason for doing this! Yet it was done...and it was NOT a good thing. im not saying ninja theory is bad, but they aren't really great either(as Gamerforlife has mentioned). and of course while at the time team ninja and nintendo venture sounded ok, we soon learned that it really wasn't too great of an idea. So why do they keep on doing it?

Well in the case of Square Enix and Capcom thesedays, they can't really even develop good games anymore themselves. Square Enix even came out and said it was Eidos (with their recent buyout) who made them save face at this years E3.
I totally agree with you though that generally it's just a horrible idea to pass off some IP's to other developers who had no part in a franchise earlier on or whatever.
