Smile: Vacation in Japan and California over the past 2 weeks was awesome. I stayed away from computers, games (except for buying them), and music for 2 weeks and feel really refreshed on top of having a great experience in another country. :D

Ticked: Back to work today *sigh*

Smile: A little more than a month and then I'm off to Japan. Still have a lot of preparation to do though...

Ticked: Found out a week ago that the store I work at is closing at the end of the month :(
I was planning to quit shortly before I left anyway, but now I'll be short a month of pay toward my trip AND the game store I've supported/worked at for the last several years is going away
I have to admit though, it'll be kinda nice to have a month open to relax and prepare before I leave. I suppose that's a plus...

Frown: In a corporate board meeting one member gave another a twenty minute lashing so harsh it left the recipient of said lashing in tears. After the flogging, the lady continued her presentation through a stream of tears.

Smile: Not to sound like a jerk but...see above.

I've never, ever seen behavior like that in a professional setting. Every one was looking at a blank projection screen away from the confrontation, but I watched every second of it. We've all had our asses chewed out before, but this was something else. It ended with "You are an embarrassment to our company, you our an embarrassment to our subsidiaries, and worst of all you are an embarrassment to yourself".

It was nuts.

I don't believe in public humiliation, or motivation by humiliation, but boy oh boy was it uncomfortable, but I enjoy uncomfortable situations sometimes.

So was the public criticism well-deserved in your opinion? What exactly did she do wrong?

Personally, I don't believe in public criticism unless it's well deserved.

The CEO and I had dinner together that night and when I asked "how did you feel about the aggressive conversation?" he answered "She had it coming". Apparently she has serious communication issues, and over promises and under delivers.

But, like I said, I don't know if that motivates anyone.

Ticked - So we have a sales contest going at work. According to the original documents everyone has a stake in it. When it comes to payouts, managers get double commission, reps have been winning items and can get double commission, techs have been winning items, the call center has been winning items, etc. Well the document was updated to take away the line about assistant sales managers. And when asked about us by one of the reps the response was "Dont worry about them, they are being adequately compensated." Apparently according to local brass the phrase "adequately compensated" means base pay but doing double the workload for the past three weeks.

By items I mean things like - 64 gig Ipads, GPS devices, $50-$500 Visa Gift Cards, Laptops of unknown specs, HD video projectors, season tickets to the local sports teams, etc. Top prize in the company is a brand new hybrid SUV.

Smiled - I have an interview on Monday with another company.

Angry face: I was surfing the free pages on CL and I kept finding many great things that were very recently posted. Every time I sent an email, I kept getting "Gone. Sry." I mean, REALLY! I understand somethings cannot be available like FREE DS GAMES, but I mean come on! A bunch of bricks? Gone! A swing for my kid? Gone! Little Sister figurine posted within the last 5 mins. GONE! Everything I find is gone! Why leave an ad up when obviously people are going to email asking about it?! It's like everything I am looking at is on a "removed" page!
