Do you think we'll see many PS3 games ported to PS Vita?

Post by Rocketman »

I just came across this: http://ps3.gamezone.com/editorials/item ... o_the_ngp/

And man, all of those are some rocking titles/franchises I haven't been able to play this generation because I don't own a PS3. Since Mod Nation Racers has been ported to PSV and maintained compatibility with the track editor and multiplayer available on its PS3 counterpart I would fathom that it's technically possible for the PSV to run any PS3 game...

Now I know PS3 games were designed for PS3 and for a home console experience, but to me it would be the greatest thing since... Well, ever. If the PSV starts getting ports of a bunch of PS3 games I'll be willing to pay for them.

Mass Effect Portable anyone?

I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes.

From what I've seen the PSV is not capable of PS3 graphics, so any ports would be lacking visually (sort of like PS2 ports on the PSP).

True, from what I've seen, the "standard" version of the video chip is supposed to be a little better than the original XBox's video chip, depending on clockspeed - though the "+" may denote a bit more performance/clock than usual.

It'll probably be host of a lot of retooled/enhanced PS2 games - which isn't necessarily a bad thing given the library on that.

I think that only the really big PS3 games in the last couple years will get ported to the PSV, if at all, but I think we will indeed be seeing a lot of PS3/PSV simultaneous releases that will be of comparable quality. I am more interested in official PS2 emulation on the PSV. This generation has already shown that perfect PS2 ports to portables are easily possible (Tales of the Abyss 3D), so the PSV should be able to do emulation standing on its head.

I hope the device will not be flooded with ports. I think it is more likely that we will see slightly unique games that share strong ties with their PS3 brethren - stories and levels may be unique, but multiplayer and DLC is cross platform.

The one caveat I'd say there is that the current PSP is a 480x272 screen. Just like current gen doesn't all run at 720p or higher, I'm sure there are PS2 games that aren't 480i/p...but quite a number are.

The Vita will actually have the screen resolution to do pixel-perfect ports of nearly all PS2 games - GT4 can do 1080i, offhand, not sure what else (if anything) does. It'll probably have a little extra oomph to boot - PS2 had no hardware AA for example, so adding that might be doable.
