Nonviolent games for Xbox360 that are still fun

Post by J T »

My father-in-law has an Xbox360 with Kinect. I'm trying to think of a good game to get him for Father's Day. I was thinking Child of Eden, but it's probably a bit too abstract for his tastes. He's a conservative Catholic person, so most violent games will be out, though I know he plays some strategy war games and flight sims on his PC. I'm also not sure how comfortable he is with a controller, though he does seem fine with a flight stick on PC. So, I'm wondering if there are some good games for a more casual gamer, whose older, and doesn't like violence/cursing in his games. Any recommendations?

The XBLA Poker game is really nifty. It is fully featured and very immersive.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Deathsmiles? Innocent little girls defeat the forces of evil (culminating in Tyrannosatan). Other than that I'm really drawing a blank.

How about Candy Land Friends?
Not his style?
OK, try I Love Everyone 2.
No?
Alright how about Good Times with the Amish.
^ My mom loves that one.

Portal and Portal 2 have no combat. Portal 2 is better because twitch gaming has been minimized, so it's more accessible.

Rhythm games might be a good choice, too. So, try introducing Rock Band or something similar. Since he'll have Kinect, Dance Central looks like a good choice.

Racing games might be right up his alley too. Although sometimes they get too difficult, there's a variety of them available.

Obviously, sports games, if he's into sports. Madden, maybe?

Viva Piñata.

Plants vs. Zombies. Great, light fun.

Limbo, though it might be a bit dark for him. Braid is a good choice too. Geometry Wars is great, but if he's not into abstract, that might not attract him.

Viva Piñata is a good idea. That's something I've been wanting to play myself after hearing GamerForLife rave about it.

I hadn't thought of Portal, though the dark humor might not be his style, and I know the turrets can be violent in portions.

Racing games are a good choice. I don't know why I didn't think of that. He tends to like simulator games, so Forza might be a good choice.

Dance Central was not his thing, though the rest of the family really enjoyed the demo.

He doesn't want to set up his XBox to be online for some reason, so the downloadable titles are out, though those are all great games (I'm looking forward to Limbo releasing on PC soon. That's the only of those you mentioned I haven't tried).

Not all DD titles are DD only.

Though the disc offerings are not very numerous, they do exist.
I do know Geo Wars 2 was on one.

What about Qubed? It has Lumines, Extend Every Extra Extreme, and Rez.
