Best Racing Game on 360 or PS3?

I've been itching to get a PS3 just for Mod Nation Racers. But it's going to be on PS Vita so I'll hold out... But you should check it out, it looks great!

It is great, both on PS3 and PSP. It's very much what Mario Kart should have evolved into, if Nintendo wasn't continually dragging their ass in the sand. The track builder is so easy to use, and you basically have infinite replayability because of it. One of the best games to come out this generation for sure.

Yeah, I was coming in here to mention ModNation Racers. As far as I'm concerned, it is the best kart racer this generation. I spent months on this damn game, and if any of y'all ever want to play it, I'd be glad to fire it back up again.

Though I should mention that despite the fact that I don't even own an Xbox 360 I must say Forza 4 is going to be the best racing game ever once it comes out. Because it will be the only racing game with Jeremy Clarkson voice overs.

Agreed. The Stig should be unlockable.

Those are the ones I'm familiar with (and own, except for Ridge Racer 6). They are ALL fun arcade racers. Grip Shift is more goal orientated with shorter tracks, Burnout is basically GTA with only cars and racing missions, and the rest are very traditional arcade games where you are either racing for first place or against a timer.

My favourite 3 of the bunch are Outrun HD, Ridge Racer 7 and Wipeout HD.

I have the PS3 game but haven't played it yet. I've heard people complaining about the load times. Is the complaint valid?

I loved Burnout 3: Takedown and hated Burnout Paradise. I recommend Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, even though it's an EA Online Pass game. Hot Pursuit was developed by the Burnout team and seems to "fix" what was wrong with Burnout Paradise. Especially playing online, which will require some pretty deep strategy and thought-out tactics to take down your enemies.

Neither game has anything as fun as crash mode though.

No. That was way back at release, and it was fixed shortly after.

Has anyone here played Blur? I heard it was like a realistic mario kart.

Probably my worst racing purchase this generation.

It's not so much that it's a bad game, because it's certainly a competent arcade racer. It's just that it's so bland and boring and uninspired. It's nothing like Mario Kart, other than the similarity in that it uses power ups.

You'd have to play it to see what I mean. The first couple laps it's like "hey, this is fun", and then the next couple are like "this is actually getting pretty boring" and then the next few are like "i'm quitting and putting in a better racer".

I would have traded it in, but it went from being full price to bargain bin in the span of two weeks, and is worth nothing at all. It did release at the same time as Split/Second (which I recommended earlier), and maybe that was part of the problem.

What do you find wrong with Burnout Paradise? Just curious because I really enjoyed it. I know online wasn't a strong point but it wasn't terrible.
