Perhaps, but I hope you don't mind if we take offense to crackers. They're so dry and make it difficult to whistle. Bitch.Niode wrote:Again, thank you for posting this. What we do is for the good of everybody in the community, all of you who have installed and gained benefit from jailbreaks, roots, no-cd cracks, custom router firmware, all that good stuff, did so off the back of hackers work. Epic Games' site and forums hacked
This is getting to be pretty damn stupid. I actually think what Jim Sterling here said was pretty good:

I wish the people behind them would stop if only for the fact that their bullshit could lead to some serious legal crackdowns on the Internet. I'd really rather the government and other authorities not become more interested in regulating the 'net than they already are, but this kind of crap encourages them.
I'm not sure "owning" a videogame company is particularly worth drawing that kind of attention.

I'm not wishing for more internet regulations, but I do wish the penalty for hacking was more severe. Like having your right to use the internet taken away for 10 years or something, just something that would be too horrid for the hackers to endure.

I think you're fighting a losing battle here. The hacking community needs to come up with a new word, because hacking and cracking are becoming synonymous in the general public's mind. And honestly, in the general public's mind there isn't a whole lot of difference. A hacker breaks in to your house but doesn't touch anything. A cracker breaks in to your house and steals your shit. One is worse, but people don't like the idea of their house being broken in to in the first place. There's a spectrum to it. Letting me jailbreak my phone, or not have to use a CD? Everyone's cool with that. But once you cross the line into breaking in to someone else's device/site, even if you don't do anything malicious, now people see you as an asshole.Niode wrote:Again, thank you for posting this. Also, stop painting yourselves as freedom fighters or anything like that. I do enjoy things like no-CD hacks, but don't kid yourself by thinking that you're doing some kind of noble, just work. It's no more noble than any other person who creates any other piece of software.

And now they've taken pot shots at EVE and Minecraft. I'm pretty sure these guys just hate games.

You know what would be pretty badass? If the "good" hackers put a stop to these guys, seeing how nobody else is doing anything about it. It makes me mad that these guys are still doing what they want, and it would make sense for hackers to preserve their good name.

As well as the Escapist and League of Legends. WTF?! Whats there problem? The Escapist actually became a really respectable place after Daniel Floyd joined and started Extra Credits. Not cool.AmishSamurai wrote:http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/14/lulzs ... minecraft/

others have asked similar questions, but I've seen no real answers: how come if a group is tweeting "hey we're the ones who did this," they're not getting in to any sort of trouble?
