Are You A Gamer Or A Collector???
It was recently discussed in this forum that as we get older, we become less interested in game or in playing game. I am one of those people. However, as I get older, I find that I have become more of a collector than a game player. I find pleasure in finding the hard to find games that I have always wanted to buy as a kid but couldn't afford. The thrill of the hunt and the joy of bagging a good deal is just as great as playing the game itself. I guess as I get older, my hobby shifts from playing game to collecting them. Of course I still play games, just less. So Ijust want to know: WHAT IS YOUR POISON WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR GAMING HABITS???

Gamer and Collector
To me, the gaming is the end result, but the getting there has become alot more fun. I love finding a good deal on something thats hard to find and then showing it off in my collection!
I have more games than I'll ever play... I guess that makes me more of a collector than a gamer. I do sit down and play the games sometimes. I have a few systems that go mostly unused (TG-16, CD-i, and 3DO)
Atari 2600 (AV mod), NES, SNES (region switch for PAL), Virtual Boy, Gamecube, Wii (D2CKey), PSX (Stealth V), PS2 (independence exploit w/ 160 GB HDD), Goldstar 3DO, Philips CD-i, Dreamcast, Saturn (racketboy's chip), Sega Genesis 2 + CD2 + 32X + Power Base Converter, Game Gear.

I'm more of a gamer than just a collector. I love collecting games and seeing my collection growing, but I only end up picking up games that I want to play. Of course that sometimes they turn out as being shite and I only play them for 5 minutes before putting them away, but if I think that I'm not going to enjoy a certain game, I just don't grab it, plain and simple.
I consider myself a 50/50 kind of guy, perhaps a bit more on the collecting side of things. I buy games I've heard good things about and I buy cheap games that were influential titles when they were released, but I only buy games I actually plan on playing. Whether or not I actually get around to playing them is a different story, but I don't buy games merely because they're collectible. I'm far too much of a CheapAssGamer to purely collect titles, but college does not allow me time to play games as much as I want.

I've actually never been interested in playing any of the games I purchase. I'll let other people play. I'm more interested in seeing the play mechanics, physics, coding implementations.
I've probably only tried about 1/3 of the carts I own.

7800, Jaguar, NES2, SNES, GC, Wii, GB, GBC, GBA, DS, Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, 3DO, NGPC
Wow, look at that for a normal distribution curve.
I would say that I'm 50/50, I try to play all the games I buy although I probably havnt played 10% of them either because I got them in a bundle and they are shit or I just havnt had time yet. I'm taking a break from buying more games at the minute because some of the games that I have in my collection deserve much more time that I have given them so far.
I do prefer to pay extra for complete games, and I like to hoarde hardware and I do enjoy the hunt for a rare bargain but I do play games most days
