Petition for Capcom to allow Kamiya to make another DMC

Damn, that trailer was one of the worst things I've ever seen. I want that 2 minutes and 30 seconds of my life back.

I would sign a petition to put the DMC series in the ground since it's been done four times and copied by a billion other games including God of War and Ninja Gaiden AND Bayonetta just to name a few
I hate redundant games. Right now the industry desperately needs new ideas

Seconded, take a look at JT's threadbare thread on new IP at E3 2011, just crazy.Gamerforlife wrote:I would sign a petition to put the DMC series in the ground since it's been done four times and copied by a billion other games including God of War and Ninja Gaiden AND Bayonetta just to name a few

I'm looking forward to this game, as someone who didn't care for DMC or Bayonetta, but loved GoW. I am hoping that Ninja Theory makes a game that I care more about then I did before the reboot.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

And that's actually the problem with this new installment. With Ninja Theory and a new director coming in changing things, these new idea's are just looking wrong wrong wrong, so very very wrong.Gamerforlife wrote:I hate redundant games. Right now the industry desperately needs new ideas

I haven't seen the trailer yet, but I'm so sick and tired of this style of combat game. I'm playing Darksiders right now and it's yet another game that takes combat out of the DMC/God of War playbook. I'm dissapointed, but the game has an interesting setting and story and has some Zelda-like gameplay elements so I'm sticking with it to see if things get more interestingXeogred wrote:And that's actually the problem with this new installment. One of the reasons I loved Batman:Arkham Asylum is because they created a new type of combat for that game. Yes, occasionally we have developers in the industry who aren't lazy thieves and can actually come up with THEIR OWN IDEAS. I wish there was more of this in the industry today. It's the reason why I have finished so few games this year. I've been ranting about Infamous in some threads, because there's not a single original idea in that game. Infamous is by the numbers third person shooter combat and by the numbers sandbox missions and a gimmicky karma system that pales in comparison to any Bioware game

Let's start a petition to have Capcom make a DMC-style Strider game.

On the other hand and no offense, but I wouldn't compare DMC combat to GoW combat at all. Japanese action games of last gen (for the most part) are a completely different world to me compared to the boringness of GoW inspired games like Lords of Shadow and Dante's Inferno, etc. Swing a big weapon around that hits everyone on the screen with a few combo's, QTE's galore for big enemies and boss battles, have a few special attacks, that's it... games like the Onimusha series, Shinobi PS2, Ninja Gaiden (Xbox), DMC, and so on completely blow these games out of the water in terms of gameplay to me.Gamerforlife wrote:I haven't seen the trailer yet, but I'm so sick and tired of this style of combat game. So on one hand I totally agree with you, on the other I'm sad that those kind of intense and fast action Japanese games are fewer and fewer in numbers thesedays.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. GOW arguably dumbed it down a bit and a lot of other games followed suit. Still, while the Japanese games are more challenging the overall style of combat is still similar to GOW and its copycats. It all started with DMC and every company has been doing its own spin on that ever since. I think there's actually a danger in trying too hard to make these types of games more challenging than their GOW inspired counterparts. Then you end up with cheap as shit games like Ninja Gaiden 2Xeogred wrote: On the other hand and no offense, but I wouldn't compare DMC combat to GoW combat at all. You mentioned Shinobi, which I consider completely unique. The tate system is very different from anything in DMC, GOW or any of those other games and I absolutely loved it. Doing a tate on a boss was immensely satisfying. There's a good example of a game walking its own path. I have immense respect for games that come at you with something new in gameplay and actually pull it off successfully because so few developers seem to have any balls these days. I see games like Shinobi and Arkham Asylum and I see guys saying, "We don't give a crap what the rest of you are doing. We're doing what WE want to do"

Yeah Shinobi was very different. You ever play it's spiritual successor, Nightshade? I hear it's similar, so that can only be a good thing. It's been years since I've played Shinobi, definitely going to have to pick that one up again and Nightshade sometime.Gamerforlife wrote:Yeah, I see what you're saying. And I will agree that I liked Arkham Asylum's combat a ton. Very, very satisfying. It's hilarious compared to GoW you're swinging around all these huge weapons cutting things apart... but it felt absolutely nothing like the sheer intense brutality of the Bat's fists. Haha. Also, although the first game had horrendous combat, I thought Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood did it pretty well... fairly similar to Arkham Asylum with the countering and timing on things, but it was hilariously awesome how brutal and violent the kills are in AC.
But yeah, you ever play Ninja Blade? That's an example of how I like my action games, one of the only Japanese-esque ones I can think of this gen... and well I guess DMC4. As for Ninja Gaiden 2 I don't have much to say about that one, I don't know what happened as I loved the first game to death, but 2 was a huge letdown to me for some reason. Didn't really dig it. I don't even think it was the difficulty, I just remember it felt so rough and unpolished compared to the first game and had some of the worst camera angles ever, something that never bothered me in the first game.
Re: Petition for Capcom to allow Kamiya to make another DMC
Ninja Gaiden II was a complete cake walk compared to the original. Then again I played the PS3 version, and supposedly it's easier than the 360 one. But really, I'm pretty sure I died less than 10 times the entire game on whatever the starting default difficulty was.
