A few games have already been turned into pen and paper RPGs, both official (i.e. Everquest) and unofficial (FF8, Dragon Warrior and Legend of Zelda).
What are some others you wanna see adapted to the pen and paper RPG format?
* Tom Clancy - based on basically all of his works and derivatives thereof, like Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six, et al. I mean, most of the games work either as squad-based shooters, stealth action and even flight sims. And all of these ideas and more would translate well into a pen and paper RPG.
* Halo
* Bard's Tale - it's already basically a digitized pen and paper RPG
* MegaTen - basically an all-encompassing RPG system based on all derivatives of the MegaTen franchise (Shin Megami Tensei, Majin Tensei, Persona, Last Bible, et al)
* Phantasy Star
* Resident Evil - the films are basically an adaptation of what one would see in a scenario from an RE RPG system.
* Twisted Metal - I have already imagined a car-based tabletop system that could be used for Twisted Metal, as well as other games (Crazy Taxi)
* Crackdown - fuck GTA! Crackdown FTW! And they could probably retool the system for my next idea.
* Saint's Row - based on the same engine as Crackdown

I believe Halo and Phantasy Star have been. Halo unofficially and Phantasy Star using the Sword system.
Personally, I would love a Bioshock RPG. Just something set in that world. I mean Ive already found a Big Daddy mini Ive been meaning to buy:

Every few months I tinker around with a combination of Melee/Wizard, Heroscape, and Mordheim for a game that will allow most minis and epochs. I just havent gotten it to click yet.

I know some folks at 2K Marin, I don't know if they have any clout though.fastbilly1 wrote:Personally, I would love a Bioshock RPG.

Pokemon? lol, rolling that dice to catch pokemon, could be fun!
Re: Video games you wanna see turned into pen&paper RPGs
Very first thing this made me think of was the last scene from "SLC Punk!".
I think Metroid would make a great table top game, especially if it was marketed with a sound track.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Agreed, and "SLC Punk!" reference FTW!Flake wrote:

Yes! Although, would it be its own system or based on a pre-existing one? Cuz it'd be interesting if one of the more well-known dieselpunk RPG incorporated BioShock elements.fastbilly1 wrote:I believe Halo and Phantasy Star have been. Halo unofficially and Phantasy Star using the Sword system.

I mean, that's what they're doing with the RPG based on steampunk band Abney Park.

It's called Airship Pirates RPG, based on Victoriana 2nd Edition's Heresy Engine and based on the universe based on Abney Park's works and backstory. Check it out.
Someone screwed the timeline up
It's 2150. The Earth's recovering from the Great Apocalypse of 1906.
From the steampunk sky-cities of Isla Aether and High Tortuga come the airship pirates.You hoist the Jolly Roger, spin your propellers and take to the skies. Yours is a life of adventure, plunder and infamy.
The American wilderness lies below. Beast-haunted wastelands are criss-crossed by the tracks of the freedom-loving Neobedouins. Armoured railroads connect the Emperor's widely scattered domains.
In the walled, fog-shrouded cities, people huddle in forced Victorian squalor, lorded over by the upper classes. The Emperor's clockwork policemen patrol the streets and the ultimate threat of the Change Cage hangs over those who would rebel. Rising from the dockyards, the frigates of the Imperial Air Navy patrol the clouds, hunting pirates and threatening the sky-cities.
You've got an airship. You've got a crew. You've got one of Doctor Calgori's fancy chronominautilus devices. All you need now is a good swig of rum (trust us, you'll need it), and you're ready to set sail on the winds of time and plunder history itself!
Who knows, maybe you'll even screw up the timeline some more?
Airship Pirates uses the Heresy Engine first introduced in Victoriana 2nd Edition. The Heresy Engine is fast, flexible and easy-to-learn, encouraging cinematic action and supporting detailed character options. Although streamlined and tweaked to fit the Airship Pirates background, it remains compatible with Cubicle 7’s Victorian fantasy games, Victoriana 2nd Edition RPG and the forthcoming Dark Harvest.

Thanks to the incredible customization availble in GURPS I ran a couple of X-COM themed sessiones, with mixed results thanks to looney players.
Oh well-

I would use the Melee engine (which is like Heroscape meets D&D - though from the 70s).REPO Man wrote:Yes! Although, would it be its own system or based on a pre-existing one? Cuz it'd be interesting if one of the more well-known dieselpunk RPG incorporated BioShock elements.

So it is a shitty Shadowrun meets Vampire hybrid based on a soso band?
If they wanted to make an airship game they should have started with a good primer - Sky Galleons of Mars/Space 1889 is where I would have started. Victoriana is just a poor system. It needs to be revamped from the ground up instead of just trying to be Victorian Shadowrun with more focus on the Johnson.
Re: Video games you wanna see turned into pen&paper RPGs
No... it's a post-apocalyptic steampunk RPG based on an awesome band.fastbilly1 wrote: So it is a shitty Shadowrun meets Vampire hybrid based on a soso band?
Do you even know who they are? There's a user on YouTube called maxmin who has all sorts of Abney Park videos, including performances and even a few videos of a pre-steampunk Abney Park.
And where the FUCK do you get vampires? The Emperor isn't Dmitri, and his two wives are not Lillith and Morrigan.
Oh, yeah...
DARKSTALKERS RPG FTW!

Ive seen Abney Park in concert twice. So yeah, I know who they are. They are a soso band. Airship Pirate is their best song. Steam Powered Giraffe, Imaginary Airship, Extraordinary Contraptions are all better steampunk bands.REPO Man wrote:No... it's a post-apocalyptic steampunk RPG based on an awesome band.fastbilly1 wrote: So it is a shitty Shadowrun meets Vampire hybrid based on a soso band?

I said it was a shitty system, which is what Victoriana is. I have played a dozen campaigns in it and it covers up the fact that the system is bad by making the game more like Vampire. Meaning more talking, less action. Let me break it down for you:
Shadowrun = Futuristic tabletop RPG
Vampire = Modern day Parlor RPG
Victoriana = Bad version of Shadowrun in a Victorian setting with Vampire elements to extend the player/npc interactions.
Every session of Victoriana I have played except one has been 70% dialogue, 20% action, 10% bickering - as opposed to most other RPGs that are 50% dialogue, 40% action, 10% bickering (that 10% is very important). The system, apart from social interactions, is just clunky. I have no problem with it being a Parlor styled RPG, but when it was first released they claimed "Steampunk D&D" which it is not. Then when they released 2.0 they claimed "The Ultimate Steampunk RPG" again, which it is not.
