Gamer Tattoos?

Post by weaponepsilon »

Hey all. Most of you probably dont know me, but I've been on here a while now. I've been thinking about getting a slick gamer tat and I know, a lot of people seem to have one because it's the "in thing" to do. Like being proud of being a geek is something to tattoo. That said, I'm not exactly one of those kids whose parents bought them a 360 and now wants a cool Halo tat because it would impress my non gamer friends in school.

I am 31 years old, married, with a kid and a house payment. I play bass in a metal band. I have gaming since I was 4. I own every gaming system that I could get my hands on starting with the Odyssey (see sig). There is a room in my house dedicated to gaming alone.

My wife has a tat.

I want one too.

I figured instead of most of the cliche' tattoos, I was thinking of getting something out of the ordinary. You know gamer related. I am just looking for something to help my brain processes fire up.

Any thoughts?

Save your money and don't bother getting a tattoo. They won't look cool when you're 50.

Yeah. And if you're in your thirties and have to ask random people on the Internet of what "slick gamer tat" to get, I'd spend that money on your kid or on a mortgage payment.

I was expecting these kinds of responses. Sigh. Why does everyone seem to want to hate?

There is something to be said about being original when getting a tattoo. I hate it when people see a tat they like on the internet, print it off, take it to the parlor, and say "I want this on me!" I know, that's not what you are going for. That being said, a game related tattoo can't be original really. More than likely, several thousands of people have played the game and know the character you are thinking of tattooing, and there is a good chance some of them have the same tattoo.

I think tattoos are an awesome form of art.

What video games have influenced you the most? I would say that would be a major factor in getting a game related tattoo.

I think you should get the logo from an extremely esoteric - but also totally awesome - game. Since you are in a metal band, I suggest that you get the MetalStorm, Metal Warriors, or Metal Slug logos. That way, when people ask you about your tattoo (or when you look at it) it will remind you of both gaming and your band.

That, or get the "Ballz 3D: The Director's Cut" logo tatooed in giant letters across your chest. When people saw it, they would think that you were extremely tough, crazy, or both. No one, however, would doubt your gaming credentials.

Thats also my problem. I have played literally over a thousand games. Some were pretty cool, others not so much. A lot of the games that I like, everyone seems to a have a tattoo of (Contra, Mario, Zelda, ETC) and the ones I thought were great, I cant seem to make up my mind. I have cases of games I see every day and I wonder if something would look good. I dunno. I jsut dont want what everyone else has and I look at these great retro games thinking there would be something cool in there to signify a life long obsession. Oh and my band name? GRYZOR.
