My elementary school had about 100 Commodore 64s all sprawled out the lengths of our hallways. My own personal use was limited, I already had an IBM compatible 386 at home and never really interested myself in those machines or the educational software my school provided. My school was using these things well passed the point that they were relevant, but it was public school and to be expected.

I do recall, however, that my old school was on my route home from high school and distinctly remember the unforgettable sight of 100+ C64s and disk drives and monitors and keyboards and dot matrix printers piled mountain high in the dumpsters (I think this would have been 98-99). I wish I would have rescued at least one but this was before I knew that they were such badass gaming machines. I have not seen a Commodre 64 in the flesh since.
sad. My C64 was my first gaming experience. Before my 2600. Before my NES. :(

I have only thrown out one game one time, and for four reasons:
1. It was broken
2. I had two copies of said game
3. Didn't know how to fix game
4. The game was Laser Blast for 2600. I hate that game anyway.

I brought a bunch of PS stuff to GameStop to sell (pretty sure it was GameStop at that point) since the PS a friend gave me didn't work and they promptly threw everything into a trash bin saying it was more likely everything else was broken.

A few months down the line, I bought new stuff and tinkered around with the console and indeed the console was half dead (busted lens, busted controller ports) -- so technically I sorta did throw out a game or three. (DDR, SF EX2, and ... something else.)
My scheduling skills have died of dysentery; I hope to visit at least on a monthly basis.
Still, don't forget to tip your waitress.

I've never thrown out a game. You still got those games for sale? Also ANYONE who wants to dispose of an old game can hit me up. I am always adding to my collection!

I don't think I have? Although I came close with Dragon Warrior for NES because it had gum or some kind of sticky gunk on it but I was able to salvage it. Why, Idk? I'm not an RPG fan generally with the exception of the Zelda series of course. I did throw out a crappy Game Stop brand Sega Genesis controller that crapped out on me after not even a year of having it and the same for some cheap ass third party company controller for Xbox. The moral of this story, stick to the company that makes the consoles if you're buying a new controller!
I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!

I didn't know Gamestop's been making their own controllers for that long.

Apparently they have. I bought that Genesis controller in like 2001-02, this was when Game Stop was still selling the retro games. Ahhh the good ol' days! 8)

I actually made this topic expecting to be almost alone, but it seems most members have had some situation where a game or related item has been thrown out. Those Saturn games I mentioned in the first post (the reason I made this thread) did end up selling, but after the various fees and shipping being more than I expected I netted very little. I hope they're in a better home now, but I'm just glad to be rid of them.

My mother refused to throw out an Atari 2600 game, it was not a rare title, and it wasn't even in it's plastic cartridge anymore (just the circuit board with a bit of the label taped to it).

The only game I remember throwing out was a bootlegged Pokemon FireRed that I (stupidly) bought when I was in the Philippines. The chips inside died after my brother got mad at me and threw the cart across the room where it hit the wall. Afterward, the game played as far as the first battle with the rival, then it would freeze and make terrible screeching noises...

So I threw it out and bought a new legit copy.
