Let's pretend that for some reason you're stuck on a remote island for the rest of your life. You have all the basics you need to live but you need entertainment. You have a choice of 10 comics stories/storylines/issues/graphic novels, what have you, to take with you. What would those be?

For me:

1. Crisis on Infinite Earths - This story is the epitome of what an epic comic crossover event is. Everything was just so cool, so grand, so big, and so exciting. And it starred EVERYONE.

2. The Death & Return of Superman - It was the biggest comic event of all-time when I was a kid. So it had a HUGE impact on me as a comic reader.

3. Spider-Man: Maximum Carnage - Laugh if you must, but I was the right age to fall in love with the storyline when it came out. I was like 10 or 11 so I ate it up and I still have an affinity to it. It also was the first huge multipart story (14-issues) that I actually acquired every single issue of.

4. X-Men (& other X-Titles): The Age of Apocalypse (Original) - I'm not a big X-Fan. But this storyline was amazing when it came out. I was following the X-Men books at the time, because a lot of my friends were so I read em anyways since they had them. But this story transcended anything I had ever read in X-Men before (or since). Just an amazing story.

5. Marvels - I love the beautiful artwork and amazing storytelling in this sort of historical piece on the fictional Marvel Universe as told through an aged New York newspaper reporter's eyes as he lives through the decades of "The Marvels".

6. Kingdom Come - For some of the same reasons I love Marvels (the beautiful artwork and great storytelling) I love this DC Comics counterpart. However this one has some more depth to the storytelling and is set in a dystopian DC Comics future.

7. Green Lantern: The Sinestro Corps War - My favorite Green Lantern storyline, and I can't not have a Green Lantern entry in this list, now can I?

8. Green Lantern: Rebirth - The new beginning for the current run of Green Lantern, and Geoff Johns & Ethan Van Sciver at their best.

9. JLA: Rock of Ages - Grant Morrison's JLA was the greatest run ever on JLA, IMO. And this was the best story from that run, IMO. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, and Plastic Man are the definitive JLA.

10. JSA: Princes of Darkness - Geoff Johns' legendary run on this series made me both a JSA fan and Geoff Johns fan. Some of you may be asking why I picked this story, of all of them, though. Well because I came late in the run and this was the first story I read in the JSA title or by Geoff Johns so it left a big impression on me.

1. Fables - My current addiction, the whole cannon is great for the most part
2. Angel and Faith - This series is not out yet, but it comes out later this year I believe. Joss Whedon is taking my two favorite Buffy the Vampire Slayer characters and giving them their own series. Words can't express how much I am looking forward to it!
3. Rurouni Kenshin - The anime fudged up some parts of the story, but the manga gives you the whole tale of the pacifist samurai in its entirety
4. Angel: After the Fall - For anyone who wants to know what Angel season 6 would have been like
5. All of Buffy season 8 - Along with the Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Tales hardcover, which is FREAKING AWESOME!
6. Y:The Last Man - What would happen if all the men in the world died? Great story and I love how they keep giving it props on the tv show Chuck. If they ever did a Y:The Last Man tv show or movie, Zachari Levi should be Yorick
7. Batman - The Killing Joke, Year One, JLA: Tower of Babel, The Long Halloween, Mad Love and just about every other great story he has been in I would want. I could do a "ten books to bring to a deserted island" list with just Batman books alone
9. X-Men: Dark Phoenix Saga - Can't go wrong with Chris Claremont era X-Men
10. Gargoyles - I loved the tv show but how never really gotten around to reading the canon's continuation in comic book form. I'd have plenty of time to do so on a desert island

I'd probably want some Deadpool and Wolverine books as well and anything by Joss Whedon that isn't already on this list

Is asking for Marvel's entire Deadpool collection pre-2010 too much?

Some funny comments from Joss about the Avengers movie. The man truly has a way with words that is uniquely Joss

I just discovered a great comic book called Fat Dog Mendoza. Here's it's cover picture: Image
It's very weird, funny, and I love the art style. I looked it up online after buying issue no. 1 at my local videogame store, and sadly, it turns out there was only ever 1 issue. It's rather obscure. There was a TV show based off it made for Cartoon Network, but it only ran in the UK and Ireland. And it's not on DVD. Dagnabbit.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned DC canceling all of their books and relaunching them in September with new looks, origins, and making the characters more modern.
I think I'm in the minority, but I am totally digging this idea.

I really like that idea as well. I did not touch the DC universe too heavily, but this may be the invitation I was looking for.

Yes it may be. I love the DCU and pride myself on having a good grasp (and collection) of it's current continuity. So that means, according to others on the internet, that I am supposed to wine bitch and moan about the heritage and legacy of the characters, but I'm not. I'm looking forward to a new take and lots of new readers to hold conversations with because finding others to talk about the old stuff was becoming a chore.
