Re: Your top 5 current-gen games
Yeah I think I surprised myself when I was thinking about this and looking at my current gen collections to see what games really stuck out. Overall though I still think FPS's were much better during the late 90's and early 2000's, not to mention they were usually about 2-3x longer than FPS's we get thesedays.brunoafh wrote:I'm surprised to see that the FPS genre is so popular among the lists.

When I say current-gen I mean 360, PS3, Wii, PSP, DS, and PC (post 2005?) obviously. Doesn't have to be just a top 5 but that's what my list will be.
1. Demon's Souls
2. Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan
3. Red Seeds Profile (Deadly Premonition)
4. 3D Dot Game Heroes
5. Nier

My top five (without thinking about it a ton):
1. Amnesia: The Dark Descent
2. 3D Dot Game Heroes
3. Nier
4. Deadly Premonition
5. Metal Gear Solid 4
I'm glad to see someone else here appreciates Nier. The satirical nature of the game mixed with its rather adult story really makes it something special. I also really liked the gameplay in Nier, although a lot of people gave it poor reviews because it had completely optional fetch-quests.

1- Hotel Dusk: Room 215/Last Window: Secret of Cape West- Nintendo DS
These games have the best story and most memorable characters of any other DS title.
It's a shame nobody really cares about this small series.
2- Monster Hunter Tri- Nintendo Wii
In an age of gameplay focused on multiplayer, this game sticks out as having both an in-depth multiplayer and an expansive single-player experience. It doesn't disappoint at all.
3- Ys Seven- PSP
Adol and Dogi's latest adventure. The Ys series has always proved that an overly complicated plot with 200 different playable characters isn't necessary for RPGs.
4- Dementium I & II- Nintendo DS
The best survival horror experience for the DS. These games are proof that first person shooters can work on the handheld.
5- Silent Hill: Shattered Memories- Nintendo Wii
Revitalized the Silent Hill series and it really demonstrates what graphics the Wii is capable of producing.
Honorable Mentions
Dead Rising- 360
House of the Dead: Overkill- Wii
Deadly Premonition- 360
Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime- DS
These games have the best story and most memorable characters of any other DS title.

Re: Your top 5 current-gen games
I just realized I probably should have listed Metal Gear Solid 4. It was another game I played constantly. Actually got every End Game Ranking in it, plus I played the ever-loving hell out of Metal Gear Online. It was a great way to tie the series up - and it had a lot of great throw-backs to the older entries. (My personal favorite part was walking into Shadow Moses and having 'The Best Is Yet To Come' start up.)
Granted, I haven't played Peace Walker, so I dunno if it did a better job.

Re: Your top 5 current-gen games
It was indeed a great game that was shamelessly panned by the critics for no good reason. Anyone that appreciates artful and unique game design ought to check it out. It's a real gem of a game.[/quote]Czernobog wrote:I'm glad to see someone else here appreciates Nier.
I don't know how MGS 4 slipped from my mind when I did my list honestly. I loved the overly verbose and over the top cut scenes, which seemed to be the chief complaint about this one. I felt it was a really solid entry though, and like you, I ate up all of the references to the previous games. The Shadow Moses stuff was just amazing, what a genius way to get you back in the mindset you were in while playing MGS 1 for the first time. The final showdown with Liquid was also pure gold. I didn't go through and get every Emblem, but I did get the Big Boss Emblem, which was challenging enough. That was rough.the7k wrote:I just realized I probably should have listed Metal Gear Solid 4.
