My kids and I are really wanting to get into this. How do you store or display your work? Is there a way to have it framed? We'd like to display the sprites we make, or maybe store them somehow in a binder or something, and I was curious if there were better ways than just hanging them from the walls. Also, where do you find that many colors? I read you have near 170 colors? On the site I found they only have about 60-70.

The 170ish range of colors comes from every color made by three companies that make fuse beads, not just perler. That being said, The range of useful colors is probably only in the 70-80ish. Like I said before, thats more than enough to satisfy the NES and most of the 16-bit color ranges, but not much beyond that.

here's another one for you guys.

Dr. Wily's famous UFO pod from Megaman 2 onwards. Wily had one in the first game too, but it looked different. This is color enhanced to make it look even better.

Thanks for the tip on the colors. What about storage or display, any tips or advice? I thought about getting one of those plastic 3 pull out drawers they sell at walmart, but would kind of like a way to sort them based on game or something. I'm pretty ocd about organization and stuff like that and would like a way to store and organize our creations.

I put them up on the walls to decorate the house, but you can also glue magnets to the backs to make them great for any fridge, hang them from the dash in your car or even get them framed. I'm too lazy/cheap to do that, but it could be done.

As for storage, yes, I recommend bins with many little drawers for small nails and screws they sell at hardware stores or in some big box chains like the Borg Collective errr, Walmart.

Well hey guys, I've just finished my super special secret project. Presenting Link from the Legend of Zelda for NES....

IN 3D!

Image

Inspired by the totally awesome 3D Dot Game Heroes for the PS3, here's Link from the classic LoZ game from 25 years ago. He's held together with glue and is somewhat fragile, but I'm pretty happy with the overall results. I decided to take the picture out in the forest behind my house - an area perfect for Link!

Additional images I took for you guys:

This project was a lot of fun, but a lot of work even though Link is small at around 4" tall, he contains hundreds of carefully arranged beads and took almost a week to complete. I may visit the idea again sometime, maybe with Mario Megaman and others.

Anyway hope you guys like it!

Well it looks like the Link idea was something of a pandora's box for me. Since then I've been flooded with requests for Mario and I've been happy to oblige. Hope you guys enjoy!

If anyone is interested, I can commission making these 3D models, but they take far far longer than the 2D sprites and as such, the costs are significantly higher. If you truly are interested, pm me with an offering price and [maybe] we can negotiate a price.
