I haven't really played enough this gen, but I'll give it a shot! Only doing games I've played a substantial amount... which means no PC, PSP, PS3 or 360
<Super Smash Bros Brawl>
I just love unconventional fighters, and Smash has been my favorite fighting series, and among my favorites in general for a long time. Brawl added in some of my favorite characters, along with the most amazing use of cutscenes in a story I've ever played through personally(yeah, I haven't played Shadow of Colossus or Shenmue though...). I didn't realize until months after playing that none of the characters talk though the whole story mode. Which with 2P was an amazing experience. Easily some of the best music and graphics to ever hit the Wii or any system(DAT sound-track), and the mash-up of Nintendo IP is just too incredible! All the different, strikingly creative modes, items, bosses and stages simply never get old, and the replayability is far greater than just about any other game out there. Basically a perfect title in all areas but balance, where it fails compared to to Melee and many other fighters.
<MySims Kingdom>
My favorite installment of the MySims and/or Sims series, and probably my favorite title form Ubisoft in general. It's a light hearted game that takes the original and adds an addictive, purely fun adventure theme, while still retaining a good amount of player creativity that made the series unique. Everything about the game came together to form a masterpiece, though commonly overlooked by more serious gamers, it seems. I cannot express enough just how pure the fun and occasional magic of this game is. Perfect title for certain non-gamers too, or so I hear.
<Kirby Super Star Ultra>
Okay, can this one count? I know it's a remake, but it has over double the content! Anyway, Kirby is one of my favorite IP's, and I feel this is probably the height of the series, and possibly the best Kirby game ever made. Being the fan of platformers(2D above 3D) as I am, another stellar title was welcome. Starfy's water platforming didn't quite fill the hole, and the amount of Mario spin off platformers was ridiculous, this quenched my thirst quite well, however. Along with being one of the best I've ever played.
<Pokémon Mystery Dungoen: Explorer's of Time/Darkness>
This one has really mixed reviews, honestly I nearly never play rogue-likes, and this is the first I've even completed the tutorial on. The sound, story and graphics are all admittedly innocent and slightly cheesy, but it does this tone so well, that it's become one of my favorite rpg's. The Pokémon based structure helps more than hinder in my case, being a fan of the series turned fan of the spin-offs, these are easily my favorite of the Pokémon series as well, and the only rpg's aside from the main Pokémon games(due to their easy difficulty) that I've played a good many times over, watching the events unfold again and again.
<Sonic Colors>
This is my favorite for many reasons. One is that I'm pretty much a Sonic fanboy at heart

Really? I got in on release, but more as a novelty item (and I'm a secret densha otaku, slightly). Still, top 5? I guess I'm just a bit surprised, but it that's your thing then cool.hashiriya1 wrote:Railfan (PS3)

Mario Kart Wii (sooo much fun to play with friends who wouldn't otherwise play games)
Wii Sports (same as Mario Kart)

1. super meat boy
2. castle crashers
3. braid
4. mega man 9
5. super meat boy
these games have one important concept at their core: gameplay. no bullshit story, endless hours needed to complete them, etc. they are awesome in every way possible.
the last retail game i bought was either gta: IV or project gotham 3. maybe it was 4, i forget. so that shows you how i don't care at all about current gen games.

2 - Super Street Fighter IV - It's the second most funnest game I played this Gen.
3 - Metroid: Other M - It's the third most funnest game I played this Gen.
4 - Metroid Prime 3 - It's the fourth most funnest game I played this Gen.
5 - Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker - I like eye patches.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
Re: Your top 5 current-gen games
1) Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
-For being amazing in every way.
2) Demon's Souls
-For having an amazing atmosphere and being one of the most rewarding games on the planet.
3) Fallout: New Vegas
-For it's great characters, perfect writing, and very good story.
4) Final Fantasy XIII
-For having one of the most fun combat systems of any RPG I've played, having some very interesting characters, and just generally being an extremely well polished experience.
5) Fallout 3
-For a crazy good atmosphere and setting, and for introducing me to the Fallout universe.
6) Dead Space
-For barely not making me piss myself. Also for having one of the very best selection of weapons in any shooter ever, and a very cool environment to use them in.
Honorable mentions go to:
Dragon Age: Origins, which I haven't found the time to play enough to fairly judge it, and...
Blazblue: Continuum Shift, for its intensely interesting cast of characters, the cool setting, and all the anime influences.

I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

Re: Your top 5 current-gen games
I love the Densha de Go series and this game just takes it a step further. It's more on serious side, but it's great. I like it. It takes me back to when I lived in Tokyo. I lived in Nakano and took the Chuo Line everyday. I guess you can say I chose this game because it takes me back to those times. Sometimes my woman watches me play and says "Natsukashiiiiiiiiiiiii" when I play the Keihan Honsen. I don't own that many 'current gen' games, so there are probably more games that are great that I haven't touched yet.Breetai wrote:Really? Re: Your top 5 current-gen games
It's funny how I complain so much about half my current gen collection, but I think this is impossible and I'll just list a lot of stuff... I can't really break it down to 5:
- Assassin's Creed II / Brotherhood (let me make it clear I LOATHED the first game, what an improvement!)
- Mass Effect 1-2 (liked KOTOR's deeper RPG elements, but oh well)
- Dead Space (best thing since RE4 to me)
- Saints Row 2 (for best open sandbox game this gen)
- 3D Dot Heroes
- Twilight Princess
- Bioshock 1-2 (not in the System Shock 2 league, but still great)
- Halo Reach, Bad Company 2, FEAR 2, and Singularity are some of my favorite traditional FPS's this gen. Played a lot of CoD4 online too, a LOT.
- Borderlands and Fallout New Vegas were lots of fun too with more depth.
- Chronicles of Riddick Butcher Bay Remake / Dark Athena (okay seriously, this game is pretty legit. Great atmosphere and real sci-fi!)
DL:
- Mega Man 9-10
- Shadow Complex
