Apparently will play everything a PSP can, with the exception of UMDs. The cards make sense - silent, take up a lot less space in the device, can have their own save space, etc.SwooshBear wrote:So the Vita is supposed to take cards like the DS instead of UMD's? Maybe it will be BC with DS

Re: Playstation Vita thread
I think that's the attitude that keeps Nintendo rolling in sales, when in actual fact, the amount of "kickass" first party stuff from them has been relatively slim pickings. Almost all of their titles are farmed out to other developers, with varying results in quality. Only the stuff kept strictly in-house (i.e. the major mario titles) still has that hint of true Nintendo quality -- and of course, the only reason that still exists is because their major talents have never left them.MrPopo wrote:With a Nintendo system you know that at the very least you're going to get a bunch of kickass first party stuff.
When it comes to the competition, (the PSV specifically) they are offering real quality titles (in the vein of Modnation, Uncharted, LBP..) that while not first party Nintendo, are serious competition and really fantastic games. For someone that's tired of Nintendo taking too long to adapt to a changing market, (in terms of their core software, obviously not the hardware where they are driving change) the titles I see being offered on the PSV are really interesting. They're different. I haven't played them before. One of Nintendo's most anticipated titles is Super Mario 3DS -- where after 23 years we finally see the return of the Tanooki suit.
Yeah, that's exciting.
I can't wait to see the full spectrum of games coming for the PSV, because the possibilities for control schemes and game types are interesting. The 3DS is simply the same DS I've already played on for years, with an analogue nub and beefed up graphics. As the announcements for 3DS games continue, I can't help but look and think "I've played this before, haven't I?" As the announcements for PSV games continue I think "Hmm, that's interesting, show me more."

Re: Playstation Vita thread
there was a time when Sony talked about creating external UMD drives. The idea was you could plug it into your PSPGo and then have the ability to play UMD's that way. If Sony decided to do something like this with the Vita, I'd jump aboard pretty damn fast.
Re: Playstation Vita thread
There's the chance that they might do something for UMDs. I think there's probably just a (legitimate) concern for piracy or cheating the system. Possible that they learned something from the PSPgo though.noiseredux wrote:yup eventually Vita will be able to play everything that PSP's can, except y'know... all those PSP games you bought.isiolia wrote:Apparently will play everything a PSP can, with the exception of UMDs. The FAQ on their site does seem to leave a window of hope for some support of UMD titles on it...but then again, it may just be marketing.

no, no. I totally understand that. And it makes sense. Just wishful thinking on my part.isiolia wrote: There's the chance that they might do something for UMDs. I think there's probably just a (legitimate) concern for piracy or cheating the system.

Re: Playstation Vita thread
Q: PS Vita doesn't support UMD but do you have any plan to introduce peripherals like "UMD readers" for PS Vita?
A: We do not have plans to introduce such peripherals at this point in time.
Q: I have UMD games but do I need to buy them again from PlayStation Store to play the same game on PS Vita?
A: We will consider every possibility for support on bought UMD games but we have nothing to comment at this point in time.
Q: Will you bring all UMD games to the new game medium or on the PlayStation Store for PS Vita?
A: SCE with the support of third party developers and publishers have been offering select UMD titles on PlayStation Store and will continue our effort to deliver these content in the form of game medium for PS Vita going forward. However, we will need to clear all copyright / legal related issues and due to this not all software titles will become available on PS Vita. We will announce details for each title when ready.

I so agree with this. Which is why I still haven't seen any compelling reason to get a 3DS. I'll be forced to eventually to play some of the game series that I like (Professor Layton, etc.) but it's not like that couldn't have been released for the DS.irixith wrote:I think that's the attitude that keeps Nintendo rolling in sales, when in actual fact, the amount of "kickass" first party stuff from them has been relatively slim pickings.
