Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Most Unreliable console from your experience ?

Post by AznKhmerBoi »

i pretty much own 70% of home consoles that came out. The one that was most unreliable in terms of break down etc... would be
1- Nes
2- Xbox 360
3- PS2 fat

Most Reliable would from my experience is the Snes , Genesis, PSX, Sega Saturn, N64

whats your?
PSN- jacktsang05
WiiU- jacktsang05

I would agree with your top 3, but I might put the 360 at #1. The original runs were basically guaranteed to die on you. I don't personally know a single 360 owner that hasn't dealt with RRoD problems. MS more or less sold a flat out defective machine for a good couple of years. At least they offered free repair/replacement (I think).

Also the Model 1 Sega CD is pretty unreliable.

We're talking about your personal experiences; not overall failure rates.

My personal unreliable systems:
Model 2 SCD. My drive is worn out. The "more reliable system" btw. Expected though given the age of the hardware.

Wii. My first system crapped out on me. My second one is doing well (knock on wood).

My most reliable systems:

Probably the Genesis Model 1. Great hardware design.

I've never heard of an NES really breaking. The one I've been using primarily for the last ten to twelve years is one I found in a gutter. Are you just talking about dirty and worn out contacts?

PS2 Phat, my launch one died just after a year, its second hand replacement didnt last much longer than that. The one I am using now I have had for 2 years, so it was obviously the early models.

Despite 360 being so high, I have never had issues. The NES has been brilliant and outside the flashing screen, its a bang on console.

The Dreamcast's tend to die a bit (laser) but that is due to people using backups, can hardly fault the hardware for that.

The thing for me with the NES though, is that as a kid, I didn't know you could just buy a new pin connector to get the games to work and break the lock-out chip to avoid the flashing screen. Because of that I've always thought of it as "unreliable".

Ironically I've had a 360 for 3 years with no problems, but I had a used xbox that red-ringed after about 6 months. Other than that, I've had damn good luck.

I've had two 360s RRoD on me, and despite multiple calls to Microsoft's tech support, they never sent me the info to send it in. I rarely play my current 360 because it's been acting up lately. My last roommate's 360 also bricked, as did all the 360s owned by a small tournament startup a couple of friends tried to get going a few years ago.

Beyond that, my girlfriend has had two PS2s die on her, we both have screwy Dreamcasts that have needed some repairs, and I had a PS1 stop working for a year and then start back up stronger than ever.
